The Philly High School Live sessions have become one of the most anticipated events of the annual June recruiting period. Organized by John Mosco (Archbishop Wood Head Coach and Andre Noble (Imhotep Charter Head Coach), Philly HS Live (Session I) once again featured a field that is absolutely loaded with talented prospects.
Earlier this week we posted Part I of our review focused on southeastern Pennsylvania prospects who performed well at the Philly HS Live (Session I) event. Yesterday, we present Part II of that individual prospect review. Today we will look at the high school teams that impressed us at Philly HS Live (Session I) so you know which squads to keep an eye on duirng the 2021-22 season.
Archbishop Carroll: Several youngsters hauled major minutes for Carroll this past winter and they had a good deal of success. We expect that group to continue to flourish. 2024 superstar-in-the-making Moses HippsMosesHipps6'4" | CGArchbishop Carroll | 2024StatePA (32 points vs. East Catholic) and shooting guard Chase ColemanChaseColeman6'1" | PGPatrick School | 2025StateNJ (offered by Manhattan) combine to make a lethal backcourt. Three level scoring threat Jake WestJakeWest5'10" | CGArchbishop Carroll | 2025StatePA (formerly of Plymouth-Whitemarsh) was a tremendous addition. 3-point specialist Dan CurranDanCurran5'11" | SGLansdale Catholic | 2024StatePA is developing into a solid all around player. When 6’4” guard Dean Coleman-NewsomeDeanColeman-Newsome6'2" | PGArchbishop Carroll | 2023StatePA (2023) eventually returns from his knee injury, he will supply additional scoring punch. If they can find minutes for everyone, Carroll is going to be very good for several years.
Archbishop Ryan: Head Coach Joe Zeglinski’s squad was the 2020-21 PIAA 5A state tourney runner up, but they lost several key players to graduation, so a state title run in 2021-22 is a long shot. However, high level wing Michael “Zaire” ParisMichael“Zaire” Paris5'11" | CGArchbishop Ryan | 2023StatePA (2023) returns, plus there a host of talented 2024s step into the lineup. So Ryan should not drop off too far. Included in that highly touted 2024 group is 6’6”Jaden MurrayJadenMurray6'3" | SFArchbishop Ryan | 2024StatePA who has turned heads this spring as well as a pair of Trenton Catholic Academy (NJ) transfers – elite guard Mike “Deuce” Jones and 6’10 interior force Thomas Sorber. Last year both players were Top 100 ranked prospects in New Jersey’s Class of 2024.
Devon Prep: DP lost a few key seniors to graduation, but a number of starters from their very successful 2020-21 PCL campaign remain and that group played excellent basketball this weekend. Elite scoring guard Argel “IV” Pettit, Swiss army knife wing player Lucas OrchardLucasOrchard6'4" | SFDevon Prep | 2023StatePA, high level small forward Jacen HollowayJacenHolloway6'4" | SFDevon Prep | 2023StatePA and 3-point ace Ty MishockTyMishock5'10" | CGDevon Prep | 2024StatePA led the Tide to a 2-0 record at the Philly HS Live. Combo-guard Allen CieslakAllenCieslak6'1" | PGDevon Prep | 2022StatePA proved again at Philly HS Live that his game has taken a major step forward. Cieslak will be an outstanding complimentary player to that first group. 2025 prospect Zane Conlan looks like he will get minutes during the 2021-22 season.
[player_tooltip player_id="991339" first="Rahmir" last="Barno"] (C/O 2023) from Imhotep.
Imhotep: When you combine three DI prospects -- Justin EdwardsJustinEdwards6'6" | PFImhotep Charter | 2023State#18NationPA (5A 1st Team All-State & arguably the hottest 2023 SEPA prospect on the spring grassroots circuit); Rahmir BarnoRahmirBarno5'10" | CGImhotep Charter | 2023State#141NationPA (3rd Team All-State) and Naji ReidNajiReid6'0" | SGJoshua Christian Academy | 2022StatePA (elite 3-point shooter) -- with a strong group of underclassmen, you have the potential for another Imhotep state title run. That potential was on full display this past weekend. Also of note…Jeremiah WhiteJeremiahWhite6'6" | SFImhotep Charter | 2024StatePA (C/O 2024) is a super athletic wing/small forward who had a very successful spring grassroots season and looked good at Philly HS Live too.
Math, Civics & Sciences: MCS racked up a 3-0 record this past weekend. Included in their undefeated weekend was a win over Reading HS, the reigning PIAA 6A state champion. 6’9” Khalif Crowley (2022) and Jaheim BetheaJaheimBethea6'0" | PGMath, Civics & Sciences | 2022StatePA (2022) provide a scoring duo that is very difficult to stop. Chauncy Presley, a rising junior backcourt prospect, is very skilled. 2024 prospect Aasim BurtonAasimBurton5'11" | PGMath Civics and Sciences | 2024StatePA (6’2”) also turned some heads at Philly HS Live.
Radnor: The lineup this weekend for Radnor (2-0) featured several high level Class of 2023 players. We have written about shooting guard Jackson HickeJacksonHicke6'5" | SFRadnor | 2023StatePA a number of times. Hicke’s classmates -- rock steady point guard Danny RosenblumDannyRosenblum5'11" | PGRadnor | 2023StatePA, athletic wings Charlie ThorntonCharlieThornton6'4" | SFRadnor | 2023StatePA and Cooper MuellerCooperMueller6'3" | SGRadnor | 2023StatePA (transfer from Park City HS in Utah) and skilled forward Nick Monty all played well at Philly HS Live(Session I). Rising sophomore guard Mike Savadove made some nice contributions as well. With this group of 23s leading the way, and a strong 2024 class, Radnor could be a Central League power for the next two or three years.
St. Joseph’s Prep: In his 2nd year at the helm, Head Coach Jason Harrigan has done an excellent job of restocking the program’s talent level. They are a year or two away from competing for the PCL title, but at Philly HS Live (Session I) you could see the future of the SJP program is bright. 6’10” big man Tristen Guillouette (transfer from Archbishop Carroll) is a 2024 with a ton of potential. His classmate Jalen HarperJalenHarper6'2" | PGSt. Joseph’s Prep | 2024StatePA is a slick point guard who can score the ball. SJP’s Class of 2025 is loaded as well. It features high level prospects Olin ChamberlainOlinChamberlain6'0" | CGSt Joseph's Prep | 2025StatePA and Jaron McKieJaronMcKie6'1" | CGSt. Joseph's Prep | 2025StatePA (Temple Head Coach Aaron McKie’s son).
