Continue ReadingThe Philly High School Live sessions have become one of the most anticipated events of the annual June recruiting period. As the basketball world comes out the Covid pandemic and returns to in-person recruiting, that anticipation was multiplied tenfold here in June 2021.
Organized by John Mosco (Archbishop Wood Head Coach and Andre Noble (Imhotep Charter Head Coach) session one of Philly HS Live once again featured a field that is absolutely stacked with talented prospects
Below is a review of the southeastern Pennsylvania prospects who stoodout at the Philly HS Live event this past weekend.
Rahmir Barno Rahmir Barno 5'10" | CG Imhotep Charter | 2023 State #223 Nation PA – 6’0” / Junior / Imhotep / Combo Guard: Barno is a wiry point guard with speed and filthy handles. He blew past defenders all weekend and got to the mid-range for a bucket or all the way to the cup to score it. If a team attempted to close off his drives into the paint, Barno used the dribble-drive to draw defenders and then kick-out to an open perimeter shooter. Barno already holds offers from Hofstra, Temple, Drexel and others.
Adam “Budd” Clark – 6’0” / Junior / West Catholic / Combo Guard: The Burrs have a number of star players such as Kaseem Watson Kaseem Watson 6'6" | CG West Catholic | 2022 State PA and Kareem Watson Kareem Watson 6'5" | SF West Catholic | 2022 State PA , but the backcourt prospect that makes this offense go is Clark. He is a crafty and intense combo guard who can push the ball in transition or direct a team in their half-court offense. Clark rarely commits a turnover and can score the rock enough to keep defenders honest. Keep an eye on Clark this July while he plays for Philly Pride.
Tristen Guillouette – 6”8’ / Sophomore / St. Joseph’s Prep / Power Forward: The former Life Center Academy (NJ) varsity reserve proved he is ready for a much bigger role at his new school. Guillouette displayed solid footwork and an ability to finish at the rim with either hand. He is a thick bodied interior player who with some work in the weight room, could be a real force down low. His highlight of the weekend was a 16 points and 10 boards double-double vs. Harrisburg.
Jackson Hicke Jackson Hicke 6'5" | SF Radnor | 2023 State PA – 6”4’ / Junior / Radnor / Shooting Guard: Hicke posted an excellent spring grassroots season for SJ Hoops Elite-Grey and his high level of play continued this past weekend. Hicke has a smooth jumper and can hit threes of all varieties — stand still, off the dribble and coming off pick action. In his 33 point effort vs Jefferson, Hicke also displayed the ability to put the ball on the floor and get to his mid-range game.
Moses Hipps Moses Hipps 6'4" | SG AZ Compass Prep | 2024 State AZ – 6’1’’ / Sophomore / Archbishop Carroll / Combo Guard: We are not sure there is much left to write about Hipps. He absolutely murdered it on the spring grassroots season for Team Final EYBL and now he tears up one of the premiere events of the 2021 high school live period. A 3-point shooter with unlimited range, Hipps excels at moving without the ball which makes him very difficult to guard. Complimenting Hipps’ outside shooting is his electric ball handling skills and ability to lead the transition game. His 32 point performance vs. East Catholic was amazing.
Justin Moore Justin Moore 6'1" | CG Archbishop Wood | 2022 State PA – 6’2’ / Senior / Archbishop Wood / Combo Guard: After his outstanding 2020-21 season at Bishop McDevitt, Moore was named 2nd Team PIAA 2A All-State Team. Playing for his new school (McDevitt closed) at Philly HS Live, Moore showed no signs of letting up. With his elite speed, Moore really gave Wood’s already dangerous transition game yet another gear. In the half court, that same speed combined with ball-on-a-string-handles allows Moore to pressure defenses relentlessly. Moore can score the ball at will, but his game never appears forced and he rarely takes ill-advised shots. The sky is he limit for this backcourt prospect who already holds offers from a number of D-I schools.
Daniel Skillings Daniel Skillings 6'5" | SG Roman Catholic | 2022 State PA – 6’5” / Senior / Roman Catholic / Wing: Skillings is a prospect who can flat out get buckets at all 3 levels and he appears to be improving rapidly. A versatile and very skilled wing/forward Skillings played at a high level all weekend, including a 24/10 double-double against St. Thomas Aquinas and then a game winner vs Bergen Catholic (NJ). Another element of Skillings’ game that jumps out at you is his intense, vocal on the court demeanor. Teammates appear to feed of that positive energy. Skillings plays for Philly Pride on the spring/summer grassroots circuit and already holds offers from Rhode Island, VCU, Fairfield, Temple, Drexel, Fordham and Albany.
