Austin Trotter | Millard South
The 2023 wing had a terrific showing for the Patriots Monday night. He demonstrated his switchability on the defensive end, swarming guards on the perimeter and bodying up inside. Aside from being a stopper, he also blocked a few shots in which the shooter was sure they had a free lane to the hoop. Offensively, he moved the ball, moved himself, and attacked the rim whenever he saw an opportunity. This Millard South team has a good crop of talent and great coaching, which makes them a favorite of mine to watch.
Parker Spann | Elkhorn South
Spann had one of the most complete performances of the night. He didn’t blow up the stat sheet, but he was a problem for the opposition in multiple areas of the game. He had two memorable post moves that led to buckets, one of which had the defender completely befuddled, almost falling over in the opposite direction that Spann ended up taking. He had several rebounds that were earned over multiple opponents, and he set his teammates up for good looks all night.
Daniel Brocaille Daniel Brocaille 6'4" | SF Papio South | 2022 State NE | Papillion La Vista South
Brocaille was lights out from distance in their game versus Bennington. At one point, he hit three straight three-point attempts before missing a heat check attempt from about 5 feet behind the line. Him and Bennington’s Austin Holtz Austin Holtz 5'10" | CG Bennington | 2022 State NE got into a shooting standoff, Brocaille ultimately coming out the victor in the individual battle.
Antjuan Williams | Omaha Northwest
Ever since I first saw Williams at the Bryan Shootout last weekend, I have been impressed with his will to win. The senior is extremely gifted physically which can lead to some highlight dunks and exciting transition possessions. But what impresses me most is his desire to rebound the basketball, fight for loose balls, and compete defensively. He takes pride in every possession, which is not easy nor common for a player on a struggling team. His offensive skillset needs refinement, but he is a pleasure to watch compete.
Casey O’Malley Casey O’Malley 6'3" | CG Creighton Prep | 2022 State NE | Creighton Prep
One of the most intriguing matchups on paper going into the night was Creighton Prep vs. Omaha South. It mostly lived up to the billing, and O’Malley was a big reason why. His shooting and steady point guard play was nothing I had not seen, but I came away extremely impressed with his confidence driving and finishing through the long, athletic Omaha South defense. He had a few very tough buckets through contact, and they came right when Prep needed it. Without Luke Jungers Luke Jungers 6'9" | PF Omaha Creighton Prep | 2022 State NE , the Jr. Jays struggled a bit offensively, but O’Malley did everything he could to make up the loss.
