Continue ReadingThe OHSBCA Showcase brought around 100 prospects to Mount Vernon Nazarene University to compete in front of college coaches from every level. This event was good for scouts and coaches because it gave us the opportunity to see some small town prospects that don’t normally get shown on a big stage. In this article we’re going to be looking at the top performers and some new names from the event.
Owen Murray Owen Murray 6'4" | SG Walnut Hills | 2022 State OH , 6’4 SG Walnut Hills 2022: Murray has a case to be the best shooter in Ohio and continues to perform each time we watch him. Murray has deep range and has a quick release when he gets his feet set. Murray doesn’t try to do too much with the basketball and stuck to what he was good at during a showcase event. Murray is in for a big time ratings boost during our next update and has excellent grades for college coaches interested in recruiting him.
Terrance Pankey Jr Terrance Pankey Jr 6'0" | PG Ursuline | 2023 State OH , 6’1 CG Youngstown Ursuline 2023: Pankey continues to produce each time we watch him and earns some deserved praise for his effort on Saturday. I love the motor and intensity that Pankey plays with. Pankey is relentless when attacking the basket and is very tough to stay in front of defensively. Pankey has a chance to be the first Division I prospect to come out of the Youngstown area in a few years if he continues to improve.
Gabe Phillips Gabe Phillips 6'8" | C Beavercreek | 2022 State OH , 6’8 C Beavercreek 2022: Phillips looked slimmer than when we last saw him during the high school season and the improved mobility was obvious when watching him. Phillips has always been a strong rim protector and good rebounder, and seemed to improve physically since the winter. Phillips should get a lot of attention from small colleges looking for a big that will be ready to compete defensively from day one.
Solomon Callaghan Solomon Callaghan 6'0" | PG Wadsworth | 2023 State OH , 6’1 PG Wadsworth 2023: I haven’t seen Callaghan since the fall of last season and were very impressed with what I saw on Saturday. Callaghan was continuing to knock down shots off the bounce from mid-range and 3-point range. Callaghan is tough to defend when going left and is a natural scorer of the basketball. Callaghan should be one of the leading scorers in northeast Ohio next season.
Braylon Wenger Braylon Wenger 6'6" | SF Dalton | 2023 State OH , 6’4 SF Dalton 2023: Maybe the biggest stock riser that I saw from the entire event was Wenger. Very different from his older brother, Braylon takes a more controlled approach to the game and relies on outside shooting to score the rock. Wenger got scorching hot in the 5V5 game on the main court that we saw and made a bunch of plays with his left hand around the rim. With the Wenger brothers, Dalton could be a contender in Division IV next season.
Tc Molk Tc Molk 6'0" | PG Dover | 2022 State OH , 6’0 PG Dover 2022: The first time I got to see Molk was on Saturday and he certainly caught me eye with his scoring ability. Molk didn’t seem phased by the increased athleticism compared to his high school schedule and got to his spots and scored the ball efficiently. Molk won’t blow you away with anything, but he’s a steady lead guard who can get a bucket when needed. I’d imagine small schools will be very interested in Molk after his performance on Saturday.
