Monroe City: The host Panthers looked strong in victories over Camp Point (IL) and Harrisburg. They have virtually their entire nucleus back from last year’s Class 3 state runner-up team. 6’0″ 2022 guard Joshua Talton Joshua Talton 6'2" | SG Monroe City | 2022 State MO does everything from scoring, rebounding, passing to playing harassing defense. Twin brother Josiah Talton Josiah Talton 6'1" | SG Monroe City | 2022 State MO is a very capable point guard who delivered some nice dimes throughout the day while also slashing for buckets in the lane. 6’2″ 2023 Cade Chapman can really ring the bell from 3-point range while 6’3″ Jaedyn Robertson and 6’1″ Deion White are a pair of 2022 athletes who play strong and fill multiple roles.
Mexico: The Bulldogs were Class 5 state quarterfinalists in 2021 and look to have a team that is quicker and will play at an even faster tempo next season. The leader is 5’11″ 2022 point guard Isaiah Reams Isaiah Reams 6'0" | PG Mexico | 2022 State MO , who is one of the top floor generals in the state. He’s smooth with the handles, can get to the basket and hit jumpers. 6’1″ 2022 Michael White is an athletic guard who can slash, defend and rebound . A pair of youngsters who stood out are 5’10″ 2023 guard Jordan Shelton, who is freak athlete who can dunk and block shots; and 5’8″ 2024 D.J. Ford who has quickness and a nice lefty stroke.
Harrisburg: The Bulldogs are a perennial winning program in Class 2 and they look to be ready for another strong campaign next season. They have a nice dynamic duo in 6’4’ 2022 Tanner Lanes Tanner Lanes 6'3" | SG Harrisburg | 2022 State MO and 5’10″ 2023 Brayden Ott. Lanes is a versatile wing player who can play the point, get buckets off the ball or go inside with his size. Ott is a nice point guard with nifty handles, good dribble penetrations skills and the ability to shoot the ball. 6’3″ 2022 Jace Carr is a solid inside player who can score and rebound.
Higbee: The Bulldogs are coming off a Final Four appearance in the Class 1 state tournament this past season. One of the reasons why I made the trip was to see the “baby backcourt” of 2024s Derek Rockett and Jordan Fuemmeler Jordan Fuemmeler 6'0" | PG Glasgow | 2024 State MO , who led the Bulldogs to the Final Four as freshman. A huge accomplishment. Rockett has good length and some wiggle to his game where he can create a shot. Jamie Smith is a solid 6’0 2022 who is stout inside.
Montgomery County: The Wildcats will be retooling after winning a district championship, but their future looks very bright a talented group of 2025s coming in. 6’3 forward Clayton Parker is a skilled player who can score inside and also hit 3-pointers. Tyler Erwin is a 6’2 forward with explosive leaping ability while point guard Isaiah Thomas is quick with playmaking and scoring ability.
