Several organizations hosted events around the city, including West Coast Elite’s, Vegas Memorial Day Classic, and Cal Elite Basketball’s West Coast Smoke. The event featured several high flying wing prospects, in this article we take a look at some of the top Wings from this weekend.
Keenan Bey Keenan Bey 6'6" | SF Bishop Gorman | 2023 State NV 6’6 SF Vegas Elite 2023 (#7PHN 2023) – It’s fun watching him develop right before our eyes. He’s gone from a physical specimen with potential, to a skilled wing who impacts the game in a variety of ways. There were several things to be encouraged about in his game. He shot the ball well from 3, had several athletic plays in transition, and showed the ability to rebound the ball at its highest point, making in traffic rebounds look like he was all alone.
Pharaoh Compton Pharaoh Compton 6'7" | PF Arbor View | 2024 State #74 Nation NV 6’5 SF Chosen Few 2024 (#9PHN 2024) – Elite level athleticism. Compton is a powerful lefty that was unstoppable in transition. Defensively he wasn’t bad either, swatting shots at a high rate, both around the rim and on the perimeter. He’s a combination of size and length, mixed with explosive athletic ability. His two-way efforts propelled Chosen Few to the 16U Platinum Championship of the West Coast Smoke Tournament.
Taj DeGourville Taj DeGourville 6'4" | SF Red Rock Academy | 2024 State #203 Nation NV 6’3 SG Vegas Elite 2024 (#3PHN 2024) – The best way to describe Degourville is talented. He had a behind-the-back move that was equally necessary and nasty. He finished the play with a dime to his teammate. His passing and vision, border on elite, yet sometimes go unnoticed simply because of his other skills.
Casey Jones Casey Jones 6'6" | SF Wasatch Academy | 2021 State UT 6’6 SF DIB Basketball 2021 (#13PHU 2021) (featured image) – Jones was the biggest bully of the tournament. He possesses a college-ready frame right now and has crazy bounce. Any opportunity to attack the rim, Jones took advantage of, hammering several powerful dunks down throughout the weekend.
Chuck Temple 6’3 SG Dreams Become Reality 2022 – Temple was a scrappy guard that provided terrific Defense for DBR. He played his role in the system, providing high energy while defending with a relentless motor.
Jack Payne Jack Payne 6'5" | SF Boise | 2022 State ID 6’5 SF DIB Basketball 2022 (#1PHI 2022) – The “Surfer Kid” as his coach likes to refer to him, played well. He was able to score the ball in transition and showed good explosion and athletic ability. Much like his teammate Jones, Payne played above the rim for a good portion of the weekend, including having his share of putback dunks.
