Several organizations hosted events around the city, including West Coast Elite’s, Vegas Memorial Day Classic, and Cal Elite Basketball’s West Coast Smoke. The event featured several terrific floor generals. In this article, we take a look at some of the top PGs from the event.
Jordan Ross Jordan Ross 6'3" | PG Link Academy | 2023 #132 Nation MO 6’3 Vegas Elite 2023 (#2PHU 2023) – Ross made a subtle, but unique play that very few young players are capable of making. On a left baseline drive, Ross spotted an open shooter in the corner, as he got set to deliver the pass, a defender dropped right into his throwing lane. Instead of panicking, the lefty PG, simply made the next read, delivering an on-time and on-target pass to an open shooter at the top of the key. The play showed both his IQ and skill, combine that with his handle and finishing ability and it’s easy to see why Ross is considered a high major PG.
Jaden Tengan Jaden Tengan 5'10" | CG Santa Clarita Christian | 2022 State CA-S 5’10 Arsenal 2022 (#78PHNC 2022) – There’s now going to be a new term called an “Arsenal Guard” Tengan fits the mold. Standing about 5’10 and maybe 150lb’s soaking wet, he spent the weekend disecting opponents. When left open, he made cold-blooded 3’s. When they tried to pressure him, he put defenders on skates, and when they collapsed, he delivered dimes to teammates.
Demetrius Johnson 5’9 Dreams Become Reality 2022 – Johnson was a shifty PG for DBR. He showed an advanced handle, and the ability to defeat opponents off the dribble. Johnson consistently got into the lane, and got out, and finished in transition.
Demarreya Lewis-Cooper Demarreya Lewis-Cooper 6'0" | PG Enterprise | 2022 State CA-N 6’0 Nor Cal Ducks 2022 (#53PHNC 2022) (featured image) – DLC was probably the MVP of the Open division. He has a good frame and displayed a tight handle. Lewis-Cooper liked to use a nifty spin move to free himself from defenders, in order to get into the lane. He was good on the defensive end as well, using his quick hands to get steals and create turnovers.
Amare Smith 6’0 Hard 2 Guard 2021 – Smith did a little of everything for H2G. In some games, he was able to serve as a backup ballhandler, in others he provided quality scoring and outside shooting. Like always, he played terrific on-ball defense, defending both backcourt spots well.
