Continue ReadingOver the last week, June 1 came and went which marks the beginning of the first live period in what seems like a lifetime. Colleges are now able to contact prospects and even bring them on campus for official or unofficial visits. The crew here at Prep Hoop Maryland will monitor those visits closely and update with any scoops we may come across. For now let’s take a look, as we always do, at the recent offers that were handed out.
OFFERS
2022 Archbishop Spalding/Team Melo W/F Cameron Whitmore Cameron Whitmore 6'7" | PF Archbishop Spalding | 2022 State #30 Nation MD added an offer from South Carolina. This is Whitmore’s sixth power five offer since the spring began. The 6-foot-7 versatile wing/forward prospect catches more eyes as events pass with his athleticism and explosiveness. Whitmore plans to visit Maryland, Villanova, Pittsburgh and Penn State thus far for the month of June.
2022 St. John’s (DC)/ DC Premier wing Christian Watson Christian Watson 6'6" | SF St. John's | 2022 State #121 Nation MD was offered by Miami. The 6-foot-7 wing had a nice showing down Southern Jam Fest, especially in the game against Team Final. I saw Watson in action once again this past weekend at the Under Armour event in Indiana and he showed continued progression in creating space off the bounce to free himself up for jumpers. His size and versatility are intriguing at the next level. Watson plans to visit Providence, Xavier, Pittsburgh and Penn State.
2022 Oak Hill/Team Durant guard Judah Mintz Judah Mintz 6'4" | SG Oak Hill | 2022 State #131 Nation VA received an offer from South Carolina. The Gamecocks are trying to establish themselves within the DMV and the prospect they are targeting would all be good additions. Mintz has been effective this spring asserting himself as a slashing guard who causes issues for his matchups at the defensive end. Mintz is scheduled to take an official visit to Penn State June 10-11.
2022 SSSA/New World point guard Devin Ceaser Devin Ceaser 6'1" | CG St. Stephen's & St. Agnes | 2022 State VA received an offer from Radford. Prior to Southern Jam Fest, Ceaser was heavily under the radar, but that quickly changed after his performance in Hampton. The 6-foot floor general is as quick and explosive as they come. Already known for his scoring prowess, Ceaser is focusing this summer on showing his ability to distribute and make others better. He did that at Southern Jam Fest and I’d expect him to be on the radar of many programs going forward.
2022 Virginia Episcopal/ DC Premier wing Justyn Fernandez received an offer from Rhode Island. Fernandez’s name continues to circle through A-10 programs after he put together a string of impressive showing at multiple events. His unique explosiveness, versatility and upside are all reasons why the spotlight has been shifted his way.
2023 St. John’s (DC)/Team Durant forward Amani Hansberry Amani Hansberry 6'7" | C Mount St. Joseph | 2023 State #52 Nation MD received an offer from Wake Forest. Just a little over a week removed from being offered by Kansas, the 6-foot-8 forward received another power five offer as he imposes his strength and size this spring in the paint. Hansberry has exceptional footwork and continues to progress with his overall versatility.
2023 St. Frances/Team Thrill W/F Cortez Johnson Cortez Johnson 6'7" | PF St. Frances | 2022 State MD received his first offer from McNeese State over the weekend. The 6-foot-7 Baltimore native has boosted his stock immensely since the beginning of the high school season on top of reclassing to 2023. Expect many other offers to follow Johnson as the summer continues.
Other news:
Former Poly point guard Trae English Trae English 5'11" | PG Baltimore Poly | 2021 State MD will attend Scotland Campus next fall and do a post-grad prep year. English may have had the most impressive string of games I’ve seen him play in his high school career this past weekend. His quickness makes him impossible to stay in front of and while his scoring around the rim has elevated to an above average level, so has his jump shooting and awareness to create for others.
