Tre Holloman Tre Holloman 6'2" | PG Cretin-Derham Hall | 2022 State #57 Nation MN of CDH. There were only so many teams at the MBCA event that played with great ball movement and great energy, but Tre’s team was certainly one of them. Tre led by example with his constant creation for teammates and every possession defensive battle. He allowed teammates to comfortably score at the rim while also catching and hitting wide open attempts. A lot of eyes in the coaching stands were on his jumper and Holloman showed them game by game that he continues to increase the shot making percentages both from mid-range and at the arc. Finally, his ball pressure bothered every player he faced and the defenders behind him followed the lead resulting in a weekend team that consistently forced turnovers. Minnesota had multiple coaches watching Holloman every game including head coach Ben Johnson while assistants from Michigan State, Illinois, and others looked on regularly.
Demarion Watson Demarion Watson 6'8" | SF Totino-Grace | 2022 State #150 Nation MN of Totino-Grace. Next up is certainly Demarion Watson. The athletic measureables at 6’8 as a wing already set him ahead. His ability to finish going at the cup is well known. The biggest parts of his game that impressed were Watson’s ability to consistently hit perimeter jumpshots and his ability to end possessions defensively. The defensive boards, deflections, and steals against scholarship level competition is what set him apart this weekend. That and consistent offensive numbers through four games. When it came to high majors watching, Demarion likely had the most eyes on him as eight schools that offered him in the past were in the stands watching.
Joshua Ola-Joseph Joshua Ola-Joseph 6'6" | SF Osseo | 2022 State #166 Nation MN of Osseo. If Ola-Joseph hadn’t convinced people of his ability to play high major basketball before, this weekend had to of done the trick. Ola-Joseph was outstanding. Once again he made one or two threes each game taking minimal attempts but more importantly his work rate was higher than eight or nine of the other guys on the floor at all times. When Ola-Joseph is doing that – and these days it’s constant – he’s rebounding in bulk and finishing explosively on the move. With the ability to move his feet and guard threes (plus hitting threes at a decent rate) plus the ability to play around the basket, he’s a high major talent to me and very soon his recruitment should look like it.
Kendall Blue Kendall Blue 6'6" | SG East Ridge | 2022 State #242 Nation MN of East Ridge. This weekend Kendall Blue Kendall Blue 6'6" | SG East Ridge | 2022 State #242 Nation MN played some of the best basketball I’ve ever seen him play. In three games I watched Blue play he scored 19 points (7 of 9 shooting), 16 points (7 of 11 shooting), and 11 points (5 of 7 shooting). Blue shot the ball well at the arc and went to the rim either in transition for free buckets or he attacked and scored over the top. Add in his shot selection was strong and he moved the ball to allow others to finish in high percentage ways and it was a great weekend for Blue. He will soon visit Marquette and Head Coach Shaka Smart watched him closely the entire weekend.
Prince Aligbe Prince Aligbe 6'6" | SF Minnehaha Academy | 2022 State #167 Nation MN of Minnehaha Academy. I would guess that Prince led the event in rebounding. I had him for 27 rebounds in about 75 minutes of running time action in the three games that I observed him play. His strength and quick bounce allow him to be a rebounding four but Prince can move his feet and defend guys at the three. His team was on a constant transition run so most of Prince’s buckets were dunks or lay-ups at the cup but he also mixed in the mid-range jumper here and there making it at an okay rate. Physically he continues to be ahead of the curve and I think in today’s college game he can play both forward spots and be a dependable worker for a high major team.
