Continue Reading24 varsity teams descended on Lexington Catholic and Frederick Douglass high schools this past weekend to take part in the annual Mack, Miller and Lofton event hosted by the Kentucky Basketball Commission. Here’s a look at the top overall underclassmen performers for the event. These are only the players I saw in person, if a player had a great game and I missed it, sorry.
2024
John Reinhart John Reinhart 6'0" | PG Lexington Catholic | 2024 State KY , Lexington Catholic – Reinhart was really good for the Knights on Saturday against Madison Central. He likely had 20+ against the Indians and did it with multiple threes and several drives to the bucket.
Ian Reesor Ian Reesor 6'6" | PF Sayre | 2024 State KY , Lexington Catholic – He only gets a few minutes per game but Reesor is the type of player who can develop over his Sophomore season and be a big contributor by the end of his Sophomore season.
2025
Vincent Dawson III Vincent Dawson III 6'5" | SG Great Crossing | 2025 State #327 Nation KY , Great Crossing – Recently moved to 2025, Dawson is a big wing who can really shoot the ball but needs to get more aggressive off the bounce. Look for him to be a major piece of the Warhawk roster moving forward.
Malachi Moreno Malachi Moreno 6'11" | C Great Crossing | 2025 State #21 Nation KY , Great Crossing – The biggest prospect in the event, Moreno is 6’10 and likely still growing at just 14 years old. He showed some good post moves and ability to protect the rim but will need to improve his conditioning moving forward.
Jasper Johnson Jasper Johnson 6'5" | PG Woodford County | 2025 #15 Nation MO , Woodford County – A tough left handed combo guard, Johnson is shifty with the ball in his hands but needs to improve his overall shot selection as he moves forward. He’s a good athlete but needs to be more engaged defensively.
Maddox Huff Maddox Huff 6'3" | PG Harlan County | 2025 State KY , Harlan County – Huff had to do a lot of the heavy lifting for Harlan County on the weekend. He played on the ball most of the time and made some really tough shots. Definitely a prospect to track.
Austin Sperry Austin Sperry 6'3" | SG Breathitt County | 2025 State KY , Breathitt County – Another reclass to 2025 from 24, Sperry puts up big scoring numbers for Breathitt. He needs to give more defensive effort as he appears to be athletic enough to guard multiple positions if he chooses to.
