Continue ReadingThe IBCA Top 100 Showcase was this past weekend and this was the first time D1 coaches we allowed to come out and see our prospects this year. The best players in the state were on display here and a few of them were able to snag some offers here due to their great showing. Today, we a look a look at and evaluate the players that made up Team Black from session one.
Zane Doughty Zane Doughty 6'8" | C Ben Davis | 2023 State IN – 6’9 PF 2023 Ben Davis: Doughty is a big power forward with natural strength. Was a little out of control here and just never seemed to find his rhythm. Did have some solid moves and finished well around the rim a few times. Never took any plays off and just kept battling which I loved to see. Needs to clean up his rawness a little bit but Doughty has a ton of potential for sure.
Jeffrey Simmons Jeffrey Simmons 6'7" | PF Fishers | 2022 State IN – 6’6 PF 2022 Fishers: Simmons is a big, strong forward that plays like a bull. Played super aggressive here on both ends like you would imagine he would and was just playing bully ball in the post area. Not super quick but uses his size and strength to play through contact and finished well for the most part and even had a monster left handed slam. Simmons looked real impressive here and just showed why he is a warrior on the hardwood. The school that he ends up at is a getting a guy that battles his tail off.
Brevin Hallatt Brevin Hallatt 6'6" | PF Blue River Valley | 2022 IN – 6’6 PF 2022 Blue River Valley: Hallatt is a taller forward that has a lot of energy to his game. Very active on both ends and had one of the higher verticals I had seen that day. Finished well around the rim and even converted a strong And1. Real solid showing from Hallatt here.
Amhad Jarrard Amhad Jarrard 6'4" | SG Mt. Vernon-Fortville | 2022 State IN – 6’4 SG 2022 Mt. Vernon-Fortville: Jarrard is a taller shooting guard with elite athleticism. Going in I knew he was more of guy that finished around the rim but here he utilized his jumper a little bit more and even had a pull-up 3. Defense looked very good in this one and one of his best plays was a steal that resulted into a big slam. Think he should be getting quiet a few low major offers here soon.
Anthony Dancler Anthony Dancler 6'2" | SG Southport | 2023 State IN – 6’2 PG 2023 Southport: Dancler is a taller lead guard with a little bit of smoothness to his game. Did not show a ton of offense here but took the role of a true lead guard. Facilitated well and was making plays and finding his teammates for buckets. Really noticed here that Dancler is a lead guard with a high IQ that will always find ways to contribute.
Aidan Franks Aidan Franks 6'2" | SG Wapahani | 2023 State IN – 6’1 PG 2023 Wapahani: Franks is a shorter lead guard that can also find ways to score. Real solid shooter 15ft and out and looked to be a reliable outside shooter. Has some quickness to his game and can make the flashy passes to his teammates. Franks is a dynamic guard that can do a little bit of everything for a team.
Jake Davis Jake Davis 6'6" | SF Cathedral | 2023 State IN – 6’6 SF 2023 Cathedral: Davis is a big wing that does so many things so well. Looked real sharp here and was making plays at all three levels. Had a ton of 3’s off the catch and was just letting them fly with confidence. So strong and so physical and can guard multiple spots on the floor. Davis is on track to start getting a good amount offers soon I think.
Ryan Conwell Ryan Conwell 6'2" | SG Pike | 2022 State #155 Nation IN – 6’3 SG 2022 Pike: Conwell is a taller guard that looked as good as we have seen him. Jumper was pretty spot on and he was paying well through contact and finishing with his right hand. Rebounded well and was aggressive crashing the glass on both ends. Outside game may need a bit more work but overall, another good showing from Conwell.
Charlie Smith Charlie Smith 6'1" | PG Fishers | 2022 State IN – 6’1 PG 2022 Fishers: Smith is a bigger lead guard that can battle. Pretty strong and was playing through contact very well here. He excelled in transition and showed quickness to beat everybody down the floor. He is a sleeper in the 2022 class but with more work and more finetuning, he could be a very reliable guard at the college level.
Ashton Oviedo – 5’10 PG 2022 Triton: Oviedo is a shorter lead guard with good hands. Built like a traditional lead guard but showed off his scoring ability a little bit. Can shoot it from three and has real nice floater to his game. Probably the lesser known player in this group but he was playing super hard and brought a good amount of toughness to this squad.
