Grit Region Memorial Classic – Perimeter Productivity
Tyson Barrett Tyson Barrett 6'8" | PF Frederick Douglass | 2023 FL (2022, 6-8, Cave Gym Elite 2022, Fredrick Douglass)
Barrett is a long post player with a really high star upside. He was as advertised at the Grit Region Memorial Classic. Barrett is a bouncy defender that controls the paint with his vertical defense. It seems like he’s a constant double-double threat.
Donovan Brewer (2025, 6-3, Indiana 465 Select 2024, Southport)
Brewer didn’t log big numbers when I saw him play, but I sure would excited to watch his development in the coming years. He showed some real flashes with a couple of very nice back to the basket post moves. Brewer was solid playing post defense, especially considering that he was matched up with a couple guys that made this list.
Gerald Crawford III Gerald Crawford III 6'6" | PF Kalamazoo Central | 2021 State MI (2021, 6-5, DV45 2022, Kalamazoo Central)
Crawford just keeps getting better and that’s a great sign for the next level. He’s included with the post players, but really, he made a difference everywhere on the floor over the weekend. Crawford overpowered opponents and played through contact. He did a ton of damage from the free throw line. Crawford got off the floor quickly after catching passes.
Braylon Isom Braylon Isom 6'1" | SG Saginaw Heritage | 2024 State MI (2024, 6-3, Puma 1of1 Elite Black 2024, Saginaw Heritage)
Isom was terrific at the Grit Region Memorial Classic. He was able to establish position deep in the paint and went to work from there. Isom found lanes and cut o the rim with a purpose. He was an athletic finisher and a weapon in transition.
Drew Kozel Drew Kozel 6'5" | SG L'anse Creuse North Macomb | 2024 State MI (2024, 6-4, Puma 1of1 Elite Black 2024, L’Anse Creuse North)
Kozel earned a lunchbox award this weekend because he put himself to work. He went incredibly hard on the offensive glass and reaped the rewards for doing so. Kozel picked up table scraps and turned them into points.
Donovan McDonald Donovan McDonald 6'7" | PF Croswell-Lexington | 2023 State MI (2023, 6-6, Michigan Cagers 2023, Croswell-Lexington)
Coach Strong is on to something with this young man. I think he sweats talent and upside. McDonald was a steadying force in the paint for his team, especially at a time when they needed one. He was active on the glass, rebounded high, and picked up some sneaky boards.
Isaiah Paige Isaiah Paige 6'5" | PF Saginaw | 2022 State MI (2022, 6-5, EAT Athletics 2022, Saginaw)
If you want to know what it’s like to be the top rebounder at a high profile event like the Grit Region Memorial Classic, just ask Isaiah Paige Isaiah Paige 6'5" | PF Saginaw | 2022 State MI . He had to have grabbed over 20 boards in an early afternoon game. I mean, Paige absolutely dominated the glass all weekend. Not to mention, he’s a strong and physical screener.
