Full disclosure while I primarily cover Michigan I was born and raised in Nashville Tennessee. So while it didn’t quite get me all the way back home. It was comforting to run into a good batch of players from the Bluegrass state this past weekend in Columbus.
Note: I have already filed reports on post prospects Tyson Barrett Tyson Barrett 6'8" | PF Frederick Douglass | 2023 FL and Jackson Twombly Jackson Twombly 6'7" | PF Woodford County | 2022 State KY so I would encourage you to follow the links and check them out as well
Shyhiem Drew 6-6 2022 Paul Laurence Dunbar Formed an efficient and imposing front line with Tyson Barrett Tyson Barrett 6'8" | PF Frederick Douglass | 2023 FL for Cave Gym Elite. Drew is a wide bodied old school post. Obviously very strong and is not afraid of contact. Not just a bruiser. As he showed a soft touch around the basket and is light on his feet with good footwork. On the intangibles side he appeared to have a real good attitude and played very hard.
Zack Carter 6-4 2022 Paul Laurence Dunbar While Barrett and Drew manned the post for Cave Gym Elite. Carter was making it rain from beyond the arc. Has kind of an unorthodox but effective release. It is comes from a high point above the head and he gets it off rather quickly. Hard to block when combined with Carter’s size. Appeared to be most comfortable in the left corner. Without having a lot of local knowledge I would imagine a front court quartet of Carter, Drew, Tim Hall Tim Hall 6'6" | PF Westminster Catawba | 2023 State SC and Lionel Kumwinba Lionel Kumwinba 6'8" | C Paul Laurence Dunbar | 2022 State KY will be one to watch next year in Kentucky.
Teagan Moore Teagan Moore 6'4" | SF Owen County | 2023 State KY 6-6 2023 Owen County This combo forward might have been the best overall prospect I saw regardless of class on the weekend. If you followed my coverage of the 17U division that is saying something. Good athlete with a powerful frame and strong legs. Skilled and versatile enough to grab a rebound and go coast to coast for a score. Saw this on more than one instance. Standout game that I was able to catch was against the Indy Nets. Moore posted a near double double of 14 points and nine rebounds. Wasn’t just doing this against anybody. The Nets possess a big frontline featuring Myles Colvin who recently picked up a Purdue offer. Finished off the weekend in style posting 31 points against Emerge Elite.
Cameron Haredewig 6-1 2023 Turpin While Moore did the damage down low and in the mid range. Hardewig simply couldn’t miss from deep on the weekend. Hardewig matched Moore in the Indy Nets contest with 14 points. Probably hit four threes in that game, At this point in his development not overwhelming athlete. Makes up for it by moving very well without the basketball. Also doesn’t need much space to get his shot off due to a quick release.
Daquis Brown 5-10 2023 Great Crossing Shifty but small point guard had a good weekend playing with Overtime Performance. Has a lot of wiggle and bounce in his lead guard game. Good speed and a tight handle make him an excellent penetrator. Wanted the ball late in a back and forth 72-71 loss to Team Cray. I was struck with his leadership and how OTP bounced back after that tough loss dropped them to 0-2. Should be noted that the entire team was playing up a division in the 2022 bracket. Making Brown’s performance and his team’s 2-2 finish all the more impressive.
