The Saints, which led King/Drew by 15 points heading into the fourth quarter, saw their lead dwindle little-by-little in the final minutes of regulation before being forced into overtime. Crean Lutheran regained control in the extra time to defeat King/Drew, 69-63. Below are five takeaways from that game.
New school, same result for Koat Keat Koat Keat 6'9" | PF Crean Lutheran | 2022 State #100 Nation CA-S
The 6-foot-9 point-forward type prospect had an outstanding individual effort in this game, scoring 26 points to go along with 11 rebounds. Keat’s combination of size, ball skills, vision and court awareness allows him to create for teammates in transition or in the half-court setting when he’s not looking to score for himself.
James Agany will draw Division I interest
Crean’s 6-foot-10 center has all the makings as a potential project big man at the next level for a program that knows how to develop low block players. Agany has natural instincts as a shot blocker and rim protector and is a pretty fluid athlete who changes ends of the floor well and has decent hands and touch around the basket. Agany will need some touching up when it comes to his low-block footwork, but his skill-set and motor at 6-10 should intrigue some local programs.
Kalib LaCount is one of SoCal’s best competitors
Don’t let his size fool you, LaCount is one of the tougher and more competitive players in all of Southern California. The 5-foot-8 point guard is a fearless attacker of the basket in transition, has the speed and quickness to get around any defender, and scores much bigger than his size inside the painted area. One thing that always stands out about LaCount is his willingness to step up and take the big shot or make the big play when the game is on the line.
Senior Sleeper: Kosy Akametu
The 6-foot-5 wing had been making some noise throughout the covid-altered season, but this was our first chance to get eyes on him in a live game setting. Akametu didn’t disappoint, scoring 26 points to go along with nine rebounds. The unsigned senior is effective when catching the ball in the middle of the floor 17-feet away from the basket where he can face, rip through, and use his strength and length to absorb and finish through contact. Akametu is a high academic student who should see some low Division I and high Division II interest.
