There were two events in the DC area, with the main private school one being DMV Live at DeMatha.
I was there live streaming the event for the CBG Live Network, and you can see all of the games archived here.
There was tons of talent in the gym, so much that I’ll have to break the standouts down into multiple parts per class! Here’s a look at part one of the top 2024 prospects, looking at standouts from the Maryland schools.
Tyler Boston | 5’8” PG | Bulliss
Boston was the definition of a floor general for Bullis, as he was the guy who initiated the offense and set the tone on both ends of the floor for them. He’s a pesky on ball defender, he has a tight handle and good shift to him and when they were in the lead and needed someone to handle pressure and make the right play down the stretch they put the ball in his hands.
AJ Swinton AJ Swinton 6'6" | SF Bishop O'Connell (VA) | 2024 State #134 Nation VA | 6’6” WF | DeMatha
It was my first time seeing Swinton in person and he made a great first impression to me and the coaches as he looks like he has all the tools to be a big time prospect moving forward. At 6’6” he’s long and an elite level athlete that plays well above the rim, he can stick it from deep and create off the bounce and he’s an excellent defender that can guard multiple positions right now and moving forward.
Jaeden Mustaf Jaeden Mustaf 6'4" | SG OTE | 2024 #51 Nation GA | 6’4” WG | DeMatha
Mustaf is another very intriguing DeMatha 2024 prospect who showed a bit of everything in his bag and was an impact guy on both ends of the floor. He’s a tough nosed and athletic wing that compete and plays with a high motor, he showed he can stick it from deep and he has a big strong frame that allows him to play against guys older and guard multiple positions.
Khani Rooths Khani Rooths 6'7" | SF IMG Academy | 2024 State #16 Nation FL | 6’7” WF | Georgetown Prep
Rooths is another 2024 prospect that could be labeled next up in the area as the 6’6” wing came into the weekend with an offer from Georgetown and picked up another one from Maryland after his play. Rooths is a smooth wing that has a great overall skill set and IQ for the game, he’s likely still growing and will become even more athletic when he grows into his body and he’s light years ahead of players his age with his ability to impact the game on both ends of the floor.
Bryson Tucker Bryson Tucker 6'7" | CG IMG Academy | 2024 #15 Nation FL | 6’6” PG | Mount St. Joseph’s
Tucker is one of a number of rising sophomores in the Baltimore area to keep an eye on moving forward, as he has great size and athleticism for a guard that plays on the basketball. He’s smooth off the bounce with a good handle and he’s able to get to spots and shoot over taller defenders, he’s a good athlete who can play through contact and his size gives him an advantage on the defensive side of the ball as well. He picked up an offer from Maryland as well this weekend.
Derik Queen Derik Queen 6'9" | PF Montverde Academy | 2024 State #18 Nation FL | 6’9” F | St. Frances Academy
Queen is the rising sophomore out of Baltimore that everyone across the country knows as he’s considered one of the top 2024 prospects in the country, and it’s easy to see why with his overpowering size and elite skill set to go along with it. At 6’9” Queen is a big man that’s a walking mismatch as he can step out and shoot it from deep, he can back down and score in the paint and he can put it on the deck and create shots as well.
Daquan Davis Daquan Davis 6'1" | PG Overtime Elite (GA) | 2024 #119 Nation GA | 6’0” PG | St. Frances Academy
Davis was another young player for this St. Frances squad that impressed me and should continue to get better and better with time. The 6’0” lead guard isn’t the biggest guy but he has great intangibles already as a leader and a floor general, he’s lightning quick off the bounce with good end-to-end speed and he can make plays for others when he blows by defender and he’s a pesky on ball defender who can shoot passing lanes off the ball too.
