The top ranked point guards in the classes of 2022, 2023, and 2024 have very unique games when compared to each other. While they are different in that affect, they share the quality that they’re all truly special players that have some serious potential at the next level. Let’s take a little more in depth look at the top ranked lead guards in Michigan from each of the classes.
2022
Kareem Rozier Kareem Rozier 5'9" | PG Orchard Lake St. Mary's | 2022 State MI (PG, Orchard Lake St. Mary’s)
Prep Hoops Michigan Class of 2022 Ranking: #7
Rozier is an old school basketball fan’s favorite player. He plays throwback circa 1980’s type defense. He laces up his shoes knowing that he’s going to out grind and outwork his opponent. Rozier should be an odds on favorite for defensive player of the year in Michigan next season. He’s been playing solid grassroots basketball with Meanstreets, showing leadership and court vision.
2023
Malik Olafioye Malik Olafioye 6'2" | PG Ecorse | 2023 State #149 Nation MI (PG, Ecorse)
Prep Hoops Michigan Class of 2023 Ranking: #1
The doubters have quieted as of late, haven’t they? The offers and interest from D1 high majors are coming in mass quantities. The young man is a prolific offensive player. He can break down a defender in isolation and get to the rim or create space for a jumper. Speaking of that jumper, Olafioye has greatly improved that aspect of his game. He has the ability to score in bunches and can take over a game at any point.
2024
Durral Brooks Durral Brooks 6'2" | PG Grand Rapids Catholic Central | 2024 State MI (PG, Grand Rapids Catholic Central)
Prep Hoops Michigan Class of 2024 Ranking: #1
Brooks has a college ready frame right now. He has terrific ball skills combined with the ability to play bully ball with the best of them. Brooks does a nice job putting his defender on his hip and making them play catch up all the way to the rim. He can score and dish at a very high level, and seems to always be aware of what his team needs from him at any given moment.
