There was tons of talent on every court and many games went down to the wire, and with so much talent we’ll have to break the standouts up into multiple pieces. Here’s a look at part one of the 17U standouts, with a look at some of the top players from North Carolina.
You can check out all the games on the CBG Live Network here!
Jaden Bradley | 6’2” PG | CP3
Bradley showed why he’s considered one of the top PGs in the country, as the lead guard was fantastic in a number of ways for CP3 on their home court and showed his big time potential moving forward. The 6’2” guard is long and a natural athlete that thrives in transition, can finish at and above the rim and is a natural playmaker that sees the floor and makes everyone on his team better. He’s a good defender and a natural leader that sets the tone on both ends of the floor, and he’s only going to get better moving forward.
Jalen Hood-Schifino | 6’5” CG | CP3
Another nationally ranked guard that is being recruited by schools all over the country, Hood-Schifino is the perfect compliment to Bradley as he’s a big guard that can play on and off the basketball and has the ability to both fill it up and make plays for others. He’s a smooth guard that can get to spots off the bounce and make shots from multiple levels, he has good vision and feel off the bounce and is unselfish and he’s a versatile defender that can guard every position on the perimeter. He’s a good athlete but even better with his skillset and IQ, and he can impact the game in a number of ways including the defensive end and on the glass.
DeAnte Green DeAnte Green 6'10" | PF Asheville Christian | 2022 State #68 Nation NC | 6’9” PF | CP3
Green is another top 150 prospect for CP3, and he showed that he’s criminally underrated in the national rankings as he was one of their top players throughout the event and was a big reason they had wins against Mokan Elite and Team Takeover. Green is a versatile big man that can play inside-out and is a mismatch nightmare as he dominated the glass and scored in the paint, but he also showed consistency from deep with his ability to catch-and-shoot and stretch the floor. He’s mobile, long and athletic making him good on both ends of the floor, and he’s productive across the board and was one of the more consistent bigs in attendance this weekend.
Keyon Webb Keyon Webb 6'2" | CG Quality Education Academy | 2023 State NC | 6’0” PG | Sheed Wallace Select
Webb isn’t the most highly touted prospect on this SWS team, but he was arguably their most consistent player throughout the event and think he could have a chance to be a division one player with his mix of skill, IQ and playmaking ability at the point guard position. He’s highly skilled off the bounce and showed that he can make shots from multiple levels, he made great reads out of the pick-and-roll and made others on his team better and he’s a natural leader at the point guard position. What he lacks in size and athleticism he makes up for with his understanding of the game and his ability to run the team.
Broderick Ellis | 6’8” PF | Sheed Wallace Select
Ellis is a very intriguing prospect for this SWS team with his mix of size, athleticism and the fact that he has a good amount of ball skills that makes him productive in a number of ways. He’s very long and is able to use that length to rebound and make plays on the defensive end, he can catch and shoot from deep and can put it on the deck and he’s an athletic finisher at the rim as well. He’s still developing but he has a lot of potential and is able to impact the game in a number of ways.
Treyvon Byrd Treyvon Byrd 6'5" | SF Bull City Prep | 2022 State NC | 6’6” WF | NC Disciples
Since he’s decided to prep and go to the 2022 class, Byrd should see a number of division one programs come see him at Bull City Prep as he’s a natural athlete with a budding skill set. At 6’6”, Byrd thrives in transition where he can handle it and get downhill and he’s a big time finisher above the rim when he gets a head of steam. He can catch and shoot it from deep, he gets hot quickly and can fill it up in bunches and he’s a good defender and rebounder for his position as well.
Omari Bolden Omari Bolden 6'3" | CG Quality Education | 2022 State NC | 6’2” WG | Big Shots Winston Salem
Bolden was a big reason that Big Shots had such a successful weekend, as the 6’2” off guard was one of the most consistent scorers on the weekend. A strong and athletic wing, Bolden can fill it up in bunches as he’s able to get to spots off the bounce and make tough shots, and he’s a knock down shooter from deep off the catch with good range and a quick release. He’s a go-getter that is a consistent scorer from all over and he’s a good defender as well.
Camian Shell Camian Shell 5'10" | PG Winston-Salem Christian | 2022 State NC | 5’11” PG | Big Shots Winston Salem
Shell was the straw that made the Big Shots team go, as the athletic point guard was able to get wherever he wanted on the floor and was able to score it and make others better with ease. He’s a quick and strong point guard that can get by guys in isolation situations and make contested shots from the midrange level, and he showed that he can knock it down from deep with consistency as well. He set the tone on both ends of the floor, competed hard no matter who was in front of him and he’s naturally gifted across the board.
