Continue ReadingIt was a live period, and college coaches were out in full force at Carmel and Westfield for the Charlie Hughes Shootout. 101 high school teams competed with one another in a preview for the upcoming season. Several teams and players looked very impressive and caught the eye of scouts and coaches. Here are the 2022 shooting guards that caught my attention during the weekend.
Landon Bair Landon Bair 6'0" | PG Lapel | 2022 IN – 6’0″ – Lapel
Bair was one of the better shooters that I saw of the entire weekend. In his final game, he caught fire in the first half with 4 triples. In addition to his shooting, he is a hard worker and plays defense very well. He ended with 17 in their final game, and he made play after play for this Lapel team. He is definitely a player to watch for Division 3 coaches.
Reggie Bass Reggie Bass 6'4" | SG Arsenal Tech | 2022 State #175 Nation IN – 6’5″ – Arsenal Tech
Bass transferred to Arsenal Tech this year, and he is going to be a major star for them. However, he struggled mightily shooting the ball against Tindley on Friday night. Bass is a tall guard with tons of length, but he will need to get used to the contact of Indianapolis basketball. I’m sure he will have no problem with that, and he should be a player to watch going into his senior season.
Colin Comer Colin Comer 6'4" | SG Greensburg | 2022 State IN – 6’3″ – Greensburg
Comer is another smaller guard who can score it well in all areas. He is aggressive getting into the lane, and he knows how to draw fouls and finish through contact. However, his go to shots are little mid range jumpers from 15 feet and in, but he can also knock down shots from the outside. Comer did start to force a little bit in this one, but he was one of the only guys that were scoring for the Pirates. He just got an offer from IU-East, and he should see more Division 3 offers in the future.
Jaxon Edwards Jaxon Edwards 6'6" | SF Cathedral | 2022 State IN – 6’6″ – Cathedral
Edwards is a lengthy wing with a lot of height and a lot of athleticism. He is probably the player that has improved his stock the most over the last couple of months. Edwards uses his athleticism attack the glass and the rim. He is extremely aggressive and had a monster dunk on the fast break after nearly throwing one down on Jalen Washington Jalen Washington 6'10" | PF Gary Westside | 2022 State #32 Nation IN . Edwards is smooth around the rim and can knock down shots, so with all of the skills that he possesses, he should be a highly-skilled Division 1 player.
Chris Gunn Chris Gunn 6'5" | SG Lawrence North | 2022 State #114 Nation IN – 6’5″ – Lawrence North
Gunn is a lengthy guard whose athleticism is just off the charts. The Indiana commit has had a ton of star power on his Lawrence North team over the past 2 years, but he will be forced to be the star for LN this year. This weekend, Gunn looked very good, averaging nearly 30 per game and scoring in all different ways. He is a must watch senior this year as he may put up record numbers this season for LN.
Nathan Hoffman – 6’1″ – Bloomington North
Hoffman is a smaller shooting guard who didn’t show much besides for an outside shot. However, his outside shot was on point in this one, going 4-5 from the outside. This addition of a spot up shooter will really help the Cougars take some pressure off of JaQualon Roberts JaQualon Roberts 6'8" | PF Bloomington North | 2023 State IN and Nick Klaiber Nick Klaiber 6'1" | PG Bloomington North | 2022 State IN this season.
Owen Linder Owen Linder 6'1" | SG Lafayette Jeff | 2022 IN – 6’2″ – Lafayette Jeff
Linder is a smooth guard who seems to just have a calming presence with the ball oh his hands. He had a nice finger roll inside and knocked down a couple of outside shots as well. With a nearly brand new roster, Linder is one of the few returning players for Jeff, and he should be a difference maker. I would like to see him be a little more consistent in the future, and if he can do this, he can be a good college player.
Fletcher Loyer Fletcher Loyer 6'4" | SG Homestead | 2022 State #108 Nation IN – 6’4″ – Homestead
Loyer is a bigger shooting guard who can really do it all. The Purdue commit is an outstanding shooter, but he also reads the floor incredibly well. This allows him to create his own shot with ease. He’s a very creative player and should showcase that skill with a possible run at both Mr. Basketball and a State title during his senior season.
Corbin Renihan Corbin Renihan 6'2" | SF Lapel | 2022 IN – 6’1″ – Lapel
Renihan is a smaller wing who is very strong with the basketball in his hands. He showed off a nice dribble pull-up in the lane, and he had a couple of strong finishes in the lane. Probably the biggest thing I noticed from his game is how patient he is with the ball in his hands. He slows the game down and makes the right play for his team. Look for this senior leader to play a big part of the success for this Lapel ball club.
Rocco Roshel Rocco Roshel 5'10" | SG Sullivan | 2022 IN – 5’10” – Sullivan
Roshel is a smaller guard who moves pretty well. He is quick with the ball, but he plays much better off the ball. He has unlimited range and can knock it down from all areas of the floor. He did struggle from the outside in this one, but he hit a couple of deep ones to show his range. With just his shooting ability, he can make a difference at the D3 level, but I want to see him get into the lane a little bit more in the future.
Max Schiltz – 6’0″ – Homestead
Schiltz is a smaller guard who plays extremely physically. He is never afraid to put his body on the line and do the dirty work for his team. With a team with the talent of Homestead, they need a role player like Schiltz to play excel. He attacks the rim strong and does what needs to be done.
