On June 16, Beach City Hoops hosted a showcase for some of those seniors still looking for an opportunity to play college basketball.
Here’s a look at a few more of those players who stood out.
1. Omarion Shackelford – Moringside
Shakelford is a player I’ve watched since the winter time when he was putting up big performances playing in the Hoops 2.0 events. He’s a bit of a combo guard and he’s very athletic. He can handle he ball well and he excels in transition, going from one end to the other and finishing the play. He can finish though contact and he can extend over the defense. Real strong off the dribble game. He can score from the perimeter where he’s consistent in both the midrange and from three-point range. He’s also a strong off-ball player often swooping in around the rim for put backs and catching lobs.
2. Jeff Udensi – Moringside
Udensi is another player I’ve watched during the Hoops 2.0 events in the winter time. He’s a solid guard with a good shot. He’s a catch and shoot type player from three-point range and he can shoot off the dribble in the midrange. Really confident in his shot; smooth mechanics and he isn’t hesitant if he’s open. On the defensive end though is where he really stands out. He applies strong pressure on-ball. He also plays with a ton of energy. High motor guy who is always hustling and diving after loose balls. Makes those plays that don’t always show up on a stat sheet.
3. Jaylen Carter Jaylen Carter 6'3" | SF Manual Arts | 2021 State CA-S – Manuel Arts
Carter is one of the most slept on wings in the SoCal area. His scoring ability on the perimeter is very good. He’s a natural wing who can handle the ball and create his own shot. He can shoot off the dribble or he can put the ball on the floor and attack the rim. He finishes through contact and he can get himself to the free throw line. Consistent shooter from three-point range. He’s got a little bit of a playmaking game to him as well. Very unselfish player who can make the right pass to open teammates.
4. Marcus Green Marcus Green 6'4" | PF Etiwanda | 2021 State CA-S – Etiwanda
Green was one of the top players for Etiwanda this season and he showed that he is worthy of college opportunities at some level. He’s very athletic and tough. He likes to get into the paint where he can finish strong and through contact. He’s got good footwork around the rim and he’s active in the paint. He doesn’t need the ball in his hands to be effective, he moves well without it and makes strong cuts to the rim. He has range out to the three-point line.
