I was on hand to watch prospects from all over the state.
Here are the top performers from the camp.
Jaylen Jones Jaylen Jones 6'0" | PG East Nashville | 2023 State #178 Nation TN , East Nashville: I already knew how well Jones can score the basketball with ease. On Saturday, the 6-foot-1 point guard’s passing ability was on display. Jones was making great bounce passes in transition and in pick-and-roll situations. The rising junior was zipping passes into the tight spaces. Adding that to his game makes him a balanced floor general.
E.J. Smith, Memphis East: Smith showed two things on Saturday. First, he was attacking the basket when his jump shot wasn’t falling in one scrimmage. In another scrimmage, Smith caught a rhythm and knocked down shots from the perimeter. The rising junior showed that he can score inside-out. Smith is also active on defense. He’s always in a defensive stance, with his hands up, when he’s on the ball.
Terrance Jacobs Jr., Bartlett: Jacobs is one of the most complete point guards in the 2022 class. He has the balance that a point guard needs. It was on display Saturday. From making great passes to scoring from different areas on the floor, Jacobs did what he was supposed to do as a floor general.
Caleb Jackson Caleb Jackson 6'2" | PG Power City Academy | 2022 State TN , PCA: Jackson is still the crafty guard I first saw as a sophomore at Kingsbury High School. The rising senior has put on muscle, so he’s more equipped now to take contact. Jackson hasn’t lost a step. He still has the court vision to make a solid pass. Jackson is crafty enough to get into the lane. His final year of high school basketball should be fun to watch.
David Craig David Craig 7'1" | C McCallie | 2022 State TN , McCallie: The 7-1 center showed a lot of promise on Saturday. Craig plays hard on both ends of the floor. He’s showing growth. At his size, Craig has solid footwork and knows how to play with his back to the basket. Craig has the ability to make shots from 17-feet out.
Brock Vice, Houston: Vice can be a solid stretch power forward. The 6-10 forward can make shots from 3-point range and is the perfect big man to use in pick-and-roll situations. Vice is showing growth as a post player. He’s active on the glass.
Regale Moore, Bartlett: The 6-2 combo guard seems to be back to his old self after missing his sophomore season. Moore was sharp offensively, dropping long 3s in his defender’s face throughout scrimmages. His ball handling is sharper than it was when he was a freshman. Moore is right where he needs to be heading into his junior season.
Jack Medalie Jack Medalie 6'6" | SG Franklin | 2023 State TN , Franklin: The 6-5 combo guard definitely made a name for himself on Saturday. Medalie was one of the best offensive players on the floor. He’s a solid ball handler, with a great shooting form. Medalie took a lot of great shots, shots that he can make on any day of the week.
Evan Eursher, Webb: Eursher was shooting lights out on Saturday, a movie scene I saw in last week’s BCAT Team Camp at Briarcrest Christian School. Eursher is one of those guards that can get into a rhythm early and once he gets into a rhythm, it becomes hard to cool him off.
Elijah Bredwood, Bearden: Bredwood was making his defenders dance on Saturday. He was hard to stay in front of, and he was creating enough space for his jump shot attempts. Bredwood has a quick, first step, so if the lane is open, he’s going to use his smooth ball handles to get in there.
Tre Davis, Lausanne: Davis was knocking down shots from the perimeter. He was more impressive with how well he made passes and moved without the basketball. Davis is still developing as a player, but he’s on the right track to being a legit Division 1 prospect.
Isaiah Regular, Overton: Regular was a force on the defensive end. His rim protection was on notice on Saturday. Regular seems to love to play defense. He always looks to block someone’s shot. It’s fun to him. Regular gets energized off blocks.
Jasen Brooks, Cleveland: In the mid-range area, Brooks is one of the best guards I have seen make a high percentage from inside the arc. Brooks is a solid ball handler, so getting to his sweet spots isn’t a hard thing to do. He, simply, takes what the defense gives him. Brooks’ court vision, along with his offensive productivity, makes him one of the best guards in the 2023 class.
Jordan Frison, Overton: Frison joined in on the scoring party amongst guards on Saturday. In one scrimmage, the rising junior had 15 points. This shouldn’t come as a surprise. Frison has been a scoring guard since he stepped into high school. Now, more and more people are able to see it.
Devaki Garr, Ensworth: Garr is one of the fastest point guards in the 2023 class. As soon as he gets the basketball, he’s heading up the floor at 100 miles per hour. Garr is a facilitator before a scorer. He’s always looking to make the right pass. That’s all he did on Saturday. Garr’s passes come in so fast that, at times, his teammates are caught off guard.
