These guys could turn out to be some really solid Varsity contributors for their ball clubs and with a summer session gearing up on the grassroots scene, could further improve their stock in the right situation.
Jahmir Kingcannon, 6’3 Guard, Highland Park, 2023: From the two games I watched, Kingcannon is Highland Park’s best outside shooter at this point in time. Nice compact and smooth release, got his shot off quickly and was always shot ready. Shot the ball at a really high clip especially on catch and shoots and rattled off a run of his own in the morning game to get Highland Park back in the game. Slim frame but is long and his shooting ability gives Highland Park a nice weapon from the perimeter.
Trent Johnson, 5’11 Guard, Desoto, 2023: Another perimeter shot maker on this list. Got a ton of opportunities to knock down open catch and shoot threes and he took advantage of it. Plays extremely hard on both ends of the floor as well. Plenty of new opportunities for Desoto next year on the court, and Johnson has a chance to snag some big time minutes and contribute.
Aiden Ingram, 6’4 Forward, Basehor-Linwood, 2022: Basehor needs some presence in the interior size wise especially when guarding and Ingram gave them a big bodied presence on the floor throughout the day. Physical basketball player who will fit nicely into what they do on both ends of the floor. Screens hard, rebounds, and has some physicality to match up with some bigs.
Corey Chatmon, 5’10 Point Guard, Leavenworth, 2022: On the day, when Chatmon was under control, limiting turnovers, and setting teammates up in good spots, Leavenworth was tough to guard. Chatmon was quick off the bounce, played with energy, and got himself into the painted area quite a bit. Is a point guard piece that could help Leavenworth be successful this upcoming season.
Quentin Robertson, 5’11 Guard, Blue Valley West, 2023: Another elite shooter on the day, Robertson entering his junior year has the opportunity and ability to be a tremendous member of a duo with Ratigan. Knocked down a bunch of threes at the event this weekend and when I watched, showed a lot of poise, fearlessness, and aggressiveness on the court. Is quick and can attack closeouts, something he will need to do a bunch as teams keen in on his shooting ability.
