The 2023 class is loaded with talent, but there are under the radar ready to burst onto the scene especially at lead guard. Here are the top 2023 under the radar floor generals set to breakout this summer.
Hampton Sanders Hampton Sanders 6'0" | PG Lawrenceville | 2023 State NJ , 6’0 Lawrenceville
Sanders has been playing well for the NJ Bulldogs this spring and has a chance to breakout in the summer. The 6’0 guard has a good handle and can finish around the basket. Sanders does not force the issue in the half court and makes good decisions with the ball in his hands. He is a tough on-ball defender and is willing to sacrifice his body for loose balls. Sanders is a gritty floor general who does what it takes to win games.
Maurice McKnight Maurice McKnight 5'10" | PG Hudson Catholic | 2023 State NJ , 5’9 Roselle Catholic
McKnight is set for a big summer with Team Rio University as he will get the opportunity to show coaches how he runs an offense. The 5’9 guard is a blur in the open floor and is tough to contain off the bounce. McKnight has a tight handle and is a crafty finisher around the basket. He can knock down jumpers from behind the arc and is an underrated passer. McKnight’s speed and play-making ability is something that will benefit him as the summer rolls on.
Jordan Atkins Jordan Atkins 6'0" | PG Rutgers Prep | 2023 State NJ , 5’11 Rutgers Prep
Atkins has been a steady presence in the backcourt for NJ Legacy so far this spring and it should continue this summer. The 5’11 floor general plays with poise and is rarely phased by on-ball pressure. Atkins has a good handle, which he uses to get into the lane and make plays. He has a quick release on his jumper and is a good rebounder for a guard his size. Atkins is a heady floor general who has the potential to turn heads at Peach Jam this July.
Nyle Coleman Nyle Coleman 5'10" | PG Peddie | 2023 State NJ , 5’9 Peddie
Coleman has been making plays for Jersey Force all spring and the trend should continue this summer. The 5’9 lefty has a smooth shooting stroke as he wastes little motion. Coleman is more than just a shooter as he can beat his man off the bounce and finish around the rim. He moves his feet well on the defensive and plays with good floor vision. Coleman’s shooting ability is something that coaches will take notice of as the summer rolls on.
Nate Pluviose Nate Pluviose 5'10" | PG Pope John XXIII | 2023 State NJ , 5’10 Pope John XXIII
Pluviose is flying under now, but that could change this summer. The 5’10 guard is at his best attacking the basket as he is a good finisher around the rim and does not mind drawing contact. Pluviose is more than just a slasher as he can also score in the mid-range and has a nice release on his jumper. He plays with quick hands on the defensive end and is a strong rebounder for a guard his size. Pluviose is a tough lead guard who is ready for a big summer with the NJ Panthers.
