Top Five
Nolan Winter Nolan Winter 7'0" | PF Lakeville North | 2023 State #98 Nation MN of Lakeville North/Howard Pulley (6’9 PF). Nolan has grown several inches in the last year and his game has grown with it. At the MBCA Camp Winter showed he is one of the biggest up and coming names not just in Minnesota or the Midwest, but maybe nationwide. The skill, feel, and length make him the ideal stretch four in today’s game. Winter is not only the second ranked prospect in Minnesota but a top 140 player nationally, and moving up.
Matthew Bothun Matthew Bothun 6'9" | PF St. Francis | 2023 State MN of St. Francis/D1 Minnesota (6’8 PF). Bothun’s rise in the rankings is somewhat similar to Winter although from a different vantage point. Bothun is also a skilled stretch four that in today’s game will find real prospect value. Bothun is a young player for his grade and has a ton of room to mature, and even though he is just tapping that potential, he averaged 19 a game as a sophomore this year for an improved St. Francis team.
Owen Leach Owen Leach 6'6" | SF Dillworth Glyndon-Felton | 2023 State MN of DGF/Grassroots Sizzle (6’6 Forward). When it comes to big number productivity, few can match what Owen has done over the winter with his high school followed by the big numbers put in the books for Sizzle all spring. He has to be the most consistent big number producer in his class for what he did in the spring events.
Pal Wal Pal Wal 6'5" | PF Albert Lea | 2023 State MN of Albert Lea/Minnesota Lightning (6’6 Forward). You will see a theme here with big men but this is about the time they start to emerge as the maturation is just starting for many of them. One of these players is Pal Wal Pal Wal 6'5" | PF Albert Lea | 2023 State MN , an extremely productive player for the Lightning that has had a fantastic season helping the Lightning win a couple of events.
Ibrahim El-Amin Ibrahim El-Amin 5'10" | PG Minnetonka | 2023 State MN of Minnetonka/D1 Minnesota (5’10 PG). I had to circle back and find a guard and El-Amin is the name I came to. Part of it is we didn’t get a chance to see Ibo this winter so watching him play twelve months later, the improvements in his game are glaring. Simply put, very few players have the feel and control at the point guard position that El-Amin does. What hurts him in a lack of height is balanced out by the control he plays and a high level of skill. I look forward to people seeing El-Amin play this winter as I think his feel for the game is special.
