Javan Simmons Javan Simmons 6'7" | C Gahanna | 2022 State OH , 6’6 C Gahanna 2022 Nova Village-Reese: Simmons was making statements at the Run N Slam, with a huge performance against Meanstreets and their lineup of high major big guys. Simmons has an excellent motor and uses his strength to score better than just about anybody I evaluate. I’m hoping to see Simmons show continued growth with his jumper because that could be a swing skill for him.
Joshua Whiteside Joshua Whiteside 6'7" | C Gahanna Lincoln | 2022 State OH , 6’7 C Gahanna 2022 Nova Village-Reese: Whiteside is back at Gahanna after spending some time at St Charles and will form one of the best big combos in the state with Simmons next season. I like Whiteside’s ability to finish with both hands and his body is a definite plus. After not getting to see him much in his Sophomore and Junior seasons, I’m excited to get some more evaluations of Whiteside this summer and high school season.
Caleb Laurich Caleb Laurich 6'7" | C Copley | 2022 State OH , 6’7 C Copley 2022 TNBA -Ohio: Laurich proved to me that he was a scholarship level big guy with a great effort against The Family at the Run N Slam in bracket play. Laurich plays super hard and grabs so many offensive rebounds. I wouldn’t ask him to ever do much with the ball in his hands, but he’s a perfect energy big to pair with other scorers. Division II and NAIA programs should be looking hard at Laurich.
Gabe Phillips Gabe Phillips 6'8" | C Beavercreek | 2022 State OH , 6’8 C Beavercreek 2022: Phillips had a breakout junior season where he led the GWOC in blocks by a substantial margin. Phillips is a high level rim protector who throws his body around offensively. Another big who plays hard and knows his role, showing that accepting your limitations can really help you become more valuable to your team.
Antwoin Reed Antwoin Reed 6'4" | C Beechcroft | 2022 State OH , 6’4 C Beechcroft 2022 Nova Village-Simmons: Reed had a good season for the city league champions, playing alongside Amani Lyles Amani Lyles 6'7" | C Beechcroft | 2022 State OH and JJ Simmons JJ Simmons 5'10" | PG Beechcroft | 2022 State OH . Reed continues to build his chemistry with Simmons during the travel season, scoring the ball constantly on the interior. Reed is a bit of a mismatch on the block as many teams don’t put a defender who can match his strength in the post. Despite his lack of height, I believe Reed will be mostly a C at the next level due to his lack of quickness. Don’t let his height prevent you from recruiting him, Reed produces against taller bigs constantly.
