Continue ReadingAfter taking a look at the first batch of newcomers to the class of 2022 ranking, it is now time to move on to the next round of players that have made their mark on the game and found themselves being placed on the leaderboard. Across the state of Idaho, quality talent is finally rising to the surface thanks to the departure of the class of 2021 and new positions and roles are opening up for many players on this list. As the 2021-2022 is set to get under way in only a few short months, it is time to see who will accept the challenge and lead their teams. Continue reading for another look at some more newcomers to the class of 2022 rankings.
Andrew Solorio Andrew Solorio 5'10" | PG Caldwell | 2022 State ID , Caldwell: Solorio is an offensive general for the Cougars and he will be a key leader on and off of the floor during the upcoming season. Andrew can dish out assists to anyone on the court and he has a great feel for how and when to get his teammates involved. Additionally, Solorio does a great job of scoring from anywhere on the floor and he is comfortable against all opponents. Andrew is a true floor general and any coach would love to have him on their team.
Jakin Calhoun Jakin Calhoun 6'8" | C Vallivue | 2022 State ID , Vallivue: The 6’8″ center has been a sleeper in Idaho for a little while but the 2021-2022 season may provide his opportunity for a breakout year. Calhoun has excellent footwork for a big and has mastered the art of the pump fake paired with a step through. He is dominant with either hand in the post and can score at will. Outside, his jump shot is coming along nicely and I would expect to see some extended range this season. On defense, the term “rim protector” is an understatement and he is deceptively quick and light on his feet.
DJ Green DJ Green 5'10" | PG McCall-Donnelly | 2022 State ID , McCall-Donnelly: Personally speaking, Green is one of my favorite players in the ranking due to the amount of energy and passion he brings to each game. Green is a scoring machine at the rim and he turned up the heat during the state tournament in March. Green has been honing in on his three point shot and an expanded offensive resume could spell trouble for all of his opponents.
