Continue ReadingThe list of elite level prospects from southeastern Pennsylvania (and beyond) who are transferring high schools this off-season continues to grow here in June. Since our third installment of the Spring 2021 transfer watch, several more exceptionally talented area prospects have announced they will be changing schools this summer.
Among those highlighted in our fourth list of transfers for Spring 2021 are three of the Delaware Valley’s elite guard prospects from the Class of 2024.
Mike “Deuce” Jones – 6’0” / Sophomore / Archbishop Ryan / Wing: The former Trenton Catholic Academy star (11.4 ppg) will be a key part of Ryan’s (PIAA 5A runner up) rebuilding process. Ryan losses 4 starters to graduation, so the ultra-talented Jones should be in the first-five on day one. With his ability to hit perimeter shots and score in transition, Jones is definitely a player to be reckoned with on offense. However, it’s his dedication to defense, especially his tenacious on-ball pressure, that separates Jones from other Class of 2024 backcourt prospects. On the grassroots circuit Jones plays for Team Final EYBL.
Namisse Musonge – 6’2” / Sophomore / Abington Friends / Wing: Musonge (formerly of Cheltenham) is relatively new to the game of basketball, so his skills are a little raw. However he is long as well as very athletic and we are told Musonge has a tremendous work ethic. So his upside is tremendous. Right now his best asset is silky jump shot. Musonge also likes to play off of his hesitation dribble and finish at the rim. This spring while running with Philly Pride Select he started to become a more physical and aggressive slasher and rebounder.
Deywilk Tavarez Deywilk Tavarez 6'2" | CG Academy of New Church | 2023 State PA – 6’2” / Sophomore / Academy of the New Church / Combo Guard: This year Tavarez attended the Shipley School which had a very limited Covid season (5 games). Tavarez played very well in those runs and solidified the reputation he earned in 2019-20 as a standout scoring guard (15 ppg; scored 20+ points seven times) for Highland HS (NJ). Tavarez kills defenses with his well-rounded skill set. In transition he is extremely versatile. He can push the rock for a bucket or to drop a dime on a teammate. Or he can fill a lane on the fast break and score by slashing to the hoop. In the half court, he is deadly with the three point shot and/or he can put the ball on the deck to score in the paint, In short, ANC is getting one helluva a backcourt player who is already generating significant interest from DI programs.
Jake West Jake West 6'1" | PG William Penn Charter | 2025 State #193 Nation PA – 5’11” / Sophomore / Archbishop Carroll / Combo Guard: A solid contributor for a very talented Plymouth-Whitemarsh squad during the 2020-21 season, West has taken his game to another level playing for Team Final-Red on the spring grassroots circuit. His fluid jumper can hit from the mid-range and behind the arc. West moves without the ball very well so he is a tough cover. His high basketball IQ allows West to function as an coach on the floor. The highlight of his spring 2021 season was likely came at the Southern Jam Fest in Virginia (Arguably the premiere East Coast event of the spring circuit.). At that tournament West posted a 26 point effort against Team Loaded Virginia 3SSB during which West provided elite level scoring and playmaking from the lead guard spot. It is scary to think about how good a backcourt of West and fellow elite 2024 guard Moses Hipps Moses Hipps 6'4" | SG AZ Compass Prep | 2024 State AZ could for Carroll in the coming years.
