Continue ReadingThe list of elite level prospects from southeastern Pennsylvania (and beyond) who are transferring high schools this off-season continues to grow here in June. Since our second installment of the Spring 2021 transfer watch, several more exceptionally talented area prospects have announced they will be changing schools this summer.
Among those highlighted in our third list of transfers for Spring 2021 is a 4-star, PIAA 5-A State Player of the Year who already holds multiple D-I offers.
Alassane Amadou Alassane Amadou 6'9" | PF SCH Academy | 2023 State #188 Nation PA – 6’9” / Junior / Springside Chestnut Hill Academy / Small Forward: The closing of Bishop McDevitt continues to disperse elite prospects all around southeastern Pennsylvania. Amadou (4 ppg. & 4 rpg.) will move on to SCHA, an Inter-Ac program on the rise, and reclass into the 2023 grad year. Amadou is a wiry and long athlete who last season started 8 games for McDevitt and shot 44% from the field. He scored as season 13 points vs Father Judge. Amadou holds offers from a number of Big 5 schools as well as Sienna. On the grassroots circuit Amadou plays for Philly Pride.
Johnny Coppolino – 6’2” / Senior-PG / Phelps School / Combo Guard: A 1st Team All Big North Conference selection out of Tenafly High School (NJ), in 2020-21 Coppolino averaged 15.7 points; 7 rebounds; 4 assists; and 2 steals per game during a Covid shortened 9 game season. Coppolino has one of the best mid-range games in North Jersey and is automatic in the 15-foot range. However, if a defender plays off him, Coppolino will knock down threes without hesitation. After taking 21 charges in just 9 games (Including 4 in one contest.), Coppolino has built a reputation as a player who will do anything to help his team.
Augustus Gerhart Augustus Gerhart 6'9" | PF Hill School | 2023 State PA – 6’9’ / Senior / Hill School / Power Forward: In 2020-21 for Cocalico High School, Gerhart (a.k.a. “Big Aug”) really made his presence known on the interior at both ends of the floor. On offense, Gerhart showed off decent foot work and a soft touch in close with either hand. He was very active on the offensive glass and converted second chance ops at a high rate. At the defensive end of the floor he is an intimidating rim protector (6 blocks vs. Hershey this past season) and cleans the glass. But, do not make the mistake of thinking Gerhart is a plodding big. No chance. This prospect is a very athletic forward, so he can play above the rim, is a capable three point shooter and can guard smaller players out on the perimeter. Plays for Philly Pride during spring/summer grassroots circuit.
Aaron Lemon-Warren Aaron Lemon-Warren 6'4" | SF Archbishop Ryan | 2021 State PA – 6’5” / Senior / Mt. Zion Prep (NC) / Wing: The former Archbishop Ryan mega-star will transfer to Mt. Zion Prep (MD) and reclass into the 2022 grad year. Lemon-Warren (2020-21 5A POY) has always been a dangerous 3-level scoring machine, but in 2020-21 he unleashed a new bag of tricks on the Philadelphia Catholic League. Lemon-Warren averaged 18.8 points and 8 rebounds while shooting 53% from field and 36% from three. That impressive stat line earned him 2020-21 PCL 1st Team All-League status. Lemon-Warren owns a high basketball IQ and will not hesitate to take advantage of mismatches on the perimeter or around the basket. Lemon-Warren is also a very good passer and rebounder. He and Christian Tomasco Christian Tomasco 6'9" | PF Archbishop Ryan | 2021 State PA push Archbishop Ryan to District 12 championship and a runner-up finish in the PIAA 5A state tournament. In the 5A state semifinal game Lemon-Warren had a monster night — 36 points (15-17 FGAs) and 11 rebounds. He holds offers from numerous schools including Richmond and St. Louis.
Dante Weise Dante Weise 6'1" | PG George School | 2023 State PA – 6’1” / Junior / George School / Point Guard: The former Allentown High School (NJ) starter is a transition game phenom who can finish through contact or drop a dime on a teammate running the floor with him. In the half court, Weise’s crafty handles allow him to get into the mid-range where he can stop on a dime and pop the jumper. When you watch Weise (13 ppg. & 6 rpg.) play another element of his game that leaps out is his unselfish style and excellent court vision. That combo allowed Weise to average an astounding 7 assists per game last season. Weise is also a solid spot up three point shooter which helped him net 19 points vs Hightstown and 17 points vs. Lawrence this past season.
