But there are several other Wichita juniors hitting the hardwood this summer who are ready to leave their marks. Here are some of the top wings/bigs to the Wichita area (in alphabetical order):
Brenden Galloway, 6-foot-4 post, Midwest Magic Elite – Resa, Circle HS:
Galloway is an agile big who runs the floor and is coordinated on the move. He can catch on the cut and score on the run. He bodies up to play physical defense in the lane, and he contests shots at the rim. He has a nice midrange game and good touch on his jumper and at the lane.
Michael Johnson, 6-foot-3 wing, Perry Ellis 34, Life Prep Academy:
Johnson is a high riser and an athlete. He can play on the wing or in the lane, and he puts his athleticism to good use. He can knock down 3-pointers, and take to the goal on the drive. On defense, he’s got long arms and quick hands. Once he rips down a rebound, he can push it end to end.
Austin King Austin King 6'1" | SF Udall | 2022 State KS , 6-foot-6 post, Midwest Magic Elite – Resa, Udall HS:
The small school big man is really solid and powerful in the post. He can power the ball up through arms in the lane, and he is equally strong going after rebounds. For his size, King is really athletic, running the floor to chase down plays or make himself available in transition.
George Nikolov, 6-foot-7 post, Midwest Magic Elite – Resa, Derby HS:
Derby has a collection of fine guards returning, and Nikolov will make sure they have a powerful front line. He’s a big and strong post who makes tough plays in the post, drawing a lot of fouls. He has a variety of moves in the lane. He floats from wing to post, popping an occasional 3-pointer.
Noah Simmons Noah Simmons 6'8" | C Valley Center | 2022 State KS , 6-foot-8 post, Team Buddy Buckets, Valley Center HS:
One of the tallest players at the Midwest Grind Session in early May, Simmons showed the kind of power game and effort to make him a top returning big man in the state. He’s a tenacious rebounder and his variety of strong moves draw a lot of fouls. He’s a good passer from the post, kicking the ball around to open shooters.
Keaton Williams Keaton Williams 6'8" | C Wichita Southeast | 2022 State KS , 6-foot-8 post, Midwest Magic Elite – Hernandez, Wichita Southeast HS:
Williams is a springy rim protector. He’s active and quick to knife through the post. He cuts through traffic to get to rebounds and to go after shots. Williams runs the court with the best bigs, and he has good athleticism to make smooth, coordinated moves with the ball.
