Continue ReadingThe Janice Street Memorial Tournament took place this past weekend with 8th Grade, 10th Grade and Varsity divisions all competing. Let’s take a look at some of the top teams and players that made noise during the event and will be ones to keep an eye on.
Varsity Champs: Their squad was absolutely loaded with talent, featuring multiple All-State & All-Conference selections that are legit next level prospects. They finished the event without a loss, winning their semi-final and championship games by an average of ten points.
10th Grade Champs: DCBC played well throughout the tournament, finishing second after pool play concluded, they won the semifinal game by three point and the championship game by one.
8th Grade Champs: The Duplin County Ball Stars would take home the 8th grade division championship winning their semifinal matchup against the Dunn Wildcats by thirty points. The championship game went down to the wire against Team Pressure 910 with Duplin County getting a win by one point to taking home the hardware.
A Few Top Performers
Team Pressure 910 Freshman Guard Darris Simmons Darris Simmons 5'10" | SG Pine Forest | 2024 NC was in the mix as one of the best overall performers on Saturday afternoon, leading his team to two victories while being one of the youngest players on the court. He got after it on both ends of the floor and is already understanding how to balance his scoring with facilitating to teammates.
DCBC Sophomore Guard Jalen James Jalen James 6'0" | CG Wallace-Rose Hill | 2023 State NC was a huge part of the reason why his team was able to take home the championship in their division. James went for 40 out of the 71 Points that his team needed to win the championship and is a player that we are very excited about as far as his potential to be special over the next few years.
Fayetteville Flash Sophomore Guard Treymane Parker Treymane Parker 6'3" | CG OT Elite | 2023 #169 Nation GA had one of the top highlights of the weekend, throwing down a dunk off a lob from a teammate off the backboard with his head near the rim. Parker is on the radar of college coaches at the D1 level already and has put together some good performances with the Atlanta Celtics.
1 Goal Junior Wing Mikey Campbell Mikey Campbell 6'5" | SF Westover | 2022 State NC is a D1 prospect that has played his way onto the radars of numerous colleges with some outstanding performances and highlight plays above the rim. On Saturday afternoon he didn’t have his best showing but we saw some of the flashes of his potential, scoring the ball and defending at a good level.
