Charles Turner Charles Turner 6'5" | CG University Of Detroit Jesuit And Academy | 2022 State MI 6-5 UD Jesuit (pictured at the top) Much like Derrick Voltz Derrick Voltz 6'4" | CG Carrollton | 2022 State MI at the Rumble in the Rapids the previous weekend— Turner was the highest ranked player in the field and lived up to this lofty billing. Standout game was his second one on Friday against the host Michigan Warriors. It was basically a “how do you want it game”. You want it from deep— check. Two bombs to start the game. From the mid range— check. Finishing at the rim though contact for an and 1. You get the picture. He had it all working in the tight 52-50 win. Showed a clutch gene by making big plays both offensively and defensively at the end to seal the win. Uses his size and ball handling to get wherever he wants on the court. Playing at the one of the premiere programs in the state, he should have no problem attracting the attention of college coaches. I know the ones who were standing next to me were buzzing throughout his Saturday performance.
Elisha Warren Elisha Warren 6'0" | PG Woodhaven | 2022 State MI 6-0 Woodhaven The previously mentioned Warriors/REACH game was a classic. That was largely due to the play of this guard who almost brought his team back after their sluggish start. Two big plays near the end exemplified the diversity in this young man’s game. One was a big time deep step back three with a defender draped over him. The second was a lightning quick back door cut and explosion to rim. As this play showed gets from first to second gear very quickly. Has a skinny and lanky frame that makes him look taller than his listed height. Comes from good bloodlines as his brother Josh was also a standout at Woodhaven.
Ben Canty Ben Canty 6'4" | SF Bloomfield Hills | 2022 State MI 6-5 Bloomfield Hills A bit of a cumulative award for this scoring wing. Played very well last weekend at the Rumble in the Rapids and I included him as a honorable mention for the best scorer of the tournament. Kept it going this weekend in Brighton. Tall, lanky, left handed scorer is about one notch away from being a true three level scorer. Has the the athleticism to make plays well above the rim and excels in transition. Has a nice outside shot that he can get off easily due to his size. Maybe it’s geography, maybe it’s because he’s left handed. But he reminds a bit of Pontiac Northern great Lester Abram (Michigan) for those who been around a while. Has a chance to blow up in his senior season. Is slated to be at Bloomfield Hills where he should form a dynamic duo with playmaking 2023 guard Noah Adamczyk Noah Adamczyk 6'0" | PG Bloomfield Hills | 2023 State MI
Kareem Rashed 6-9 Detroit Country Day The only big on this list, and he is a no doubt about it big. Not a lanky 6-6 to 6-8 prospect still growing into to his body. This is a legit 6-9 wide bodied old school post prospect. Playing with Bates Fundamentals 17U Red early in the spring. He suited up with the M&M Boyz this past weekend. Had an excellent game on Saturday against the Michigan Heat. While the Heat did not have the biggest frontline I was impressed with how Rashed asserted himself. Sometimes in the midst of this size disparity you’ll see a post float or the game get too fast. Rashed went right to the low block and used his size to punish his opponent. Not an overly explosive athlete but moves well for his size. He did have a tip dunk and was able to get out transition with his very fast squad. While I labeled him a “old school big”— it is 2021 so he has a smooth and easy release from the three point line. Was an intimidating presence in the paint and had a few blocked shots. You can’t teach size and this young man has plenty of it.
Dray Chase Dray Chase 6'0" | PG Okemos | 2022 State MI 6-0 Okemos Like his DV45 teammate Ben Canty Ben Canty 6'4" | SF Bloomfield Hills | 2022 State MI this is a bit of two weekend award as Chase also played well last weekend. Unlike Canty these were my first two times viewing this guard. Got off to slow start on the weekend but came on alive on Sunday. Despite a smaller frame has deceptive athleticism. Showed this off with a big block at the rim along with several other high level defensive plays on Saturday. The offense came alive on Sunday. Scored 25 in the semifinal victory over Michigan Heat. Followed that up with 17 in the championship game where DV45 avenged their opening loss to an undefeated REACH Legends squad (see above) Should team with Will Young (Indy Heat) to give Okemos one of the best backcourts in state.
