Continue ReadingSaturday allowed me the opportunity to watch several 16U and 15U teams at the Super Sixteen tournament hosted by All Ohio Basketball. The event featured all the EYBL All-Ohio teams in a pool play then bracket play. I was only able to attend for 3 hours but it was enough to catch a few familiar faces while learning some new names in addition. Below were my top performers from the afternoon slate of games.
Ty Meyer (2024) Shining Star s- St. Xavier
Meyer is a promising prospect for Shining Star s. Shifty guard that showed poise and patience with the basketball in hand. Good instincts and made the smart plays. Really impressed with his body control when making a move. Changed the direction and speed efficiently and effectively. Has a chance to be a special prospect for St. X down the road.
Austin Parks Austin Parks 6'9" | C St. Mary's Memorial | 2023 State #166 Nation OH (2023) Ohio Buckets-Turf- St. Mary’s Memorial
I was unable to watch a ton of prospects due to me being at the event for a few hours, but Parks was without a doubt the top rated one I got to see. The 6’9 C dominated against Team Teague who did not have the height to defend him. Too big and had guys bouncing off of him. Good decision maker out of the post and kept the high ball near his chin to give him a chance of making a play. While he was nearly 6 inches taller than most of his opponents, finished through serious contact and was strong with the ball. Watching Parks really intrigues me to see him play against some higher level competition as we move into July.
Mike Greenlee Jr. (2023) Ohio Buckets-Turf- Toledo Central Catholic
Greenlee arrived late in the game I watched against Team Teague, but his impact was made quickly for the Buckethood as they won this game. Greenlee is unselfish; making the extra pass every time he could. Quick and crafty. Made instant decisions with the ball and effortlessly made plays for his teammates. My only concern with Greenlee right now is his size. With continued growth, he could be a serious prospect collegiately in the coming years.
Zion Crowe Zion Crowe 6'4" | SG Springfield Shawnee | 2023 State OH (2023) Dayton Elite- Springfield Shawnee
While I coach for Dayton Elite 17U, I had not seen the 16U team play yet. I was instantly intrigued watching Crowe play against Shining Star s. First off, his size is good for a guard at 6’4. Second, his versatility and ability to put the ball in the rim at multiple levels was impressive. Thirdly, he is very athletic for a bigger guard. He has all the tools to be a scholarship player and should see his stock continue to rise.
