Across the board, there were a few teams in the 15u division that had dominant posts. Rebounders, and big men in general, proved to be a huge luxury for some teams, while the Achilles heel of others. Here were a few of my favorites:
Eric Stevenson Enid Elie:
Stevenson was a very active big that caught my eye early. He’s solid in the pick-and-roll and is a great offensive rebounder. He stands at 6’2, and is a big bodied post, but he moves well and displays plenty of athleticism allowing him to grab boards. He was quick to find a body when boxing out too. Stevenson anchored the middle for a solid team that had a great weekend.
James Wilson 6thman Oklahoma:
Wilson has a solid case to be one of the best big men in his class. His frame is massive and his rebounding skills seem effortless. While his height and frame contribute to his rebounding, he also has a solid motor and a general toughness on the floor. Wilson is an all-around star and will continue to raise his stock, but his ability to rebound and be a big post presence is what stood out to me.
Troy Moses Tulsa Infinity:
Troy Moses is an absolute hustle guy. You can tell he brings passion to the game and makes his teammates want to play hard too. He has a nice drop step and knows how to position himself to score, but also to offensive rebound. Moses is a legit 6’5/6’6 and uses that to his full advantage. To be that size, and have that motor, is a luxury for any team and Moses raised his stock this weekend. High energy guy that just wants to rebound.
Sam McCormick Tulsa Hawks:
This kid displayed toughness all weekend. McCormick is an athlete and it showed. He wasn’t afraid to put a body on people to box out and is the type of player to dive on the floor for loose balls. He’s a dual sport athlete, further showcasing his athletic ability, and plays above the rim. He’s had some highlight dunks this summer, too. McCormick is 6’3 and, believe it or not, plays even taller than that.
Gavin Loper RSE Elite:
Loper is known for his scoring and his ability to get hot in a hurry, but his rebounding is the most underrated part of his game. How many guards can go and get you 10 rebounds? Loper is all over the court and chases loose balls and gets his hands on anything coming off the rim. His hustle earns him a few extra boards every game. Loper is an all around elite player, but his rebounding is very underrated.
