A lot of length, shooting, and versatility amongst this group throughout the weekend.
Julian Margrave Julian Margrave 6'9" | SF Louisberg | 2022 KS , 6’9, Run GMC 2022 (Pictured): Margrave’s shooting ability at 6’9 to shoot the ball from the perimeter is extremely valuable, and he has the athletic ability to move hard and come off screens into the catch and shoot, and his quick release and length make almost every drive and kick to him a high quality perimeter shot opportunity. Handle is quality enough to push the break in transition and had a couple of opportunities throughout the weekend where he could attack the rim and make some good things happen in the paint. Saturday night, he hit a ton of big threes in the second half against SSA 2022 Black to keep them at just enough arms length in the second half.
TJ Williams, 6’4, Run GMC 2024: Previewed the young wing before the tournament, and he had himself a good showing. I watched him play during the opening moments of the event and he was getting out into transition and letting his athletic ability do the work. I really like his ability up and around the rim and his pull up jumper is a good counter to his downhill play. The young man has a nice trajectory moving forward as a prospect and will be intriguing to follow.
Kamryn Kaniper Kamryn Kaniper 6'4" | SF Silver Lake | 2023 State KS , 6’5, SSA Elite 2023 Black: Kaniper had a solid weekend playing for both the 16U and filling in for 17U in some cases of injury. The springy and high energy wing continues to be everywhere on the basketball floor, getting deflections, offensive rebounds, and keeping possessions alive. Scoring wise he had spurts this weekend, but all of the other activity he brings and his size, makes it really hard to keep him off of the court, whether he is shooting well or not. Had a 15 point, 14 rebound in a win over SW Iowa Attack.
Tyson Ruud Tyson Ruud 6'5" | SF Basehor-Linwood | 2023 State KS , 6’5, SSA Elite 2023 Black: Ruud also had moments this weekend, highlighted with a 26 point effort in a win over SW Iowa attack. Him and Kaniper have the chance to be a really good wing combination for SSA Elite 2023 Black with their size, speed, and jumping ability. Ruud has shot the ball really well, and when he rounds his game out with diving to the rim, slashing, and offensive rebounding, he can be a really difficult wing player to stop.
Will Rost Will Rost 6'3" | SG Aquinas | 2023 State KS , 6’4, Drive 5 2023: Rost’s versatility fits in really nicely with the Drive 5 2023 club. He guarded and rebounded well this weekend which is an added bonus to his offensive ability. His shooting ability is the story with him and his extended range behind the line. He was really efficient from deep during the high school season and the same has been the case this spring. His versatility allows him to fit a ton of team needs so its no surprise he is finding success in multiple places.
