BallerTV was my weekend host for the Prep Hoops Circuit event and I saw some great action over the two days of play. An all-Mi3 tournament team was created involving several top performers from the games streamed from the Mi3 Center. Here is a look at the players who encompassed that team.
First Team
G Ra’sauud Eaglin (2022) – Houston Wildcats (Thurgood Marshall) – 6’3″
Eaglin showed that he could score on all three levels during the weekend in Houston. He is a lefty who can get into the paint almost at will. Highly skilled player
W Shawn Jones Shawn Jones 6'2" | CG UHigh | 2020 State LA (2022) – Drive Nation Houston Red (Shadow Creek) – 6’5″
Jones went for 30-plus in one game and displayed all around abilities on the offensive end. He is an excellent perimeter defender and can alter shots around the rim. Top level player.
G Biggie Luster Biggie Luster 6'2" | SG Rockford East | 2021 State IL (2021) – Midwest Tarheels Select ’22 (Rockford East) – 6’3″
A lefty guard who loves to play passing lanes and get into transition. Luster can get buckets outside or in the paint with ease. He can do it all. He should be a late signee somewhere.
G Trey Miller Trey Miller 6'2" | PG Concordia Lutheran | 2022 State TX (2022) – Drive Nation Houston Black (Concordia Lutheran) – 6’2″
Miller was probably the best player over the weekend. He has point guard skills, an ability to score at every level, and has some serious lift. A player to keep tabs on in Texas for sure.
G Raven Ortiz Raven Ortiz 6'0" | PG San Angelo Central | 2022 State TX (2022) – Nike ProSkills SA ’22 (San Angelo Central) – 6’0″
Ortiz is a true point guard with some serious bounce. He can get down hill quickly but does not mind passing ahead on the break. One of the better players I have seen in 2021.
Second Team
W Desmond Duncan Desmond Duncan 6'4" | CG Winnfield | 2022 State LA (2022) – Central Louisiana ’22 (Winnfield) – 6’3″
G Khamani Haynes (2022) – Beast Elite ’22 (Nortide) – 5’11″
G David Lewis (2022) – The Disciples ’22 (Salt & Light) – 5’9″
G Brandon Hardy Brandon Hardy 6'4" | SG Zachary | 2023 State #234 Nation LA (2023) – LA Broncos ’22 (Zachary) – 6’3″
G Kentrelle Royston Kentrelle Royston 6'3" | PG Aldine Nimitz | 2023 State TX (2023) – North Houston Bandits (Nimitz) – 6’2″
Duncan may be listed at 6’2″ but he is athletic and played as a rim protector all weekend for Central Louisiana. He eats the glass and scores at the bucket on a high level. Haynes can stroke it from deep. He can also score well from the free throw line extended in the mid-range. Lewis was one of the better point guards all weekend. His craftiness in getting to the rim was a pleasure to see all weekend. Tough player also. Rodgers is as gifted as any guard or wing in this tournament. When he had to score, he would. He was more of a facilitator during the weekend and the prospect of him being able to facilitate and score makes him a very dangerous player going forward. Royston still displayed his trademark speed while adding some mid and long range jumpers this weekend.
Third Team
W Troy Cole Troy Cole 6'5" | SG Donaldsonville | 2022 State LA (2022) – Showtime Elite ’22 (Donaldsonville) – 6’4″
G Tyce Gentry Tyce Gentry 6'1" | SG Brock | 2022 State TX (2022) – Tarrant Elite ’22 (Brock) – 6’2″
G Jacob Ryan (2023) – L.A.B. Elite ’23 (Cinco Ranch) – 6’2″
G Jakobe Singleton Jakobe Singleton 6'3" | SG St. Amant | 2021 State LA (2021) – Louisiana Fire ’22 (St. Amant) – 6’4″
G Da’chari Thigpen (2023) – Beast Elite ’23 (Spring) – 6’3″
Cole played both sides of the ball about as good as it can be played this weekend. He turned defense into offense a few times and was Showtime Elite’s best overall player on the weekend. Gentry has a quick trigger and was deadly from the corners for Tarrant Elite. His shooting opened up the floor for his teammates to get to the rim constantly. Jacob Ryan is a complete guard and showed it over the weekend. He can score at every level, has a very good handle and can dish the rock. He is scary good. Thigpen is a deadly shooter who launched a few from the parking lot during games. He can also take defenders off the dribble. A definite player to keep your eye on.
Other players such as Donald Butler Donald Butler 6'5" | SF Walker | 2022 State LA (Showtime Elite ’22), Devin Beal (Texas Takeover ’22 Elite – Greg), Jacob Duran (Houston Nets ’22), and Grayson Fowler (CS Hoops Varsity) had good weekends as well. Look for all of these players during the next Prep Hoops Circuit event or back in their home state as team camps begin with their respective high schools.
