Continue ReadingThis was my first year attending this tournament, and it really lived up to its expectations. Teams from all over Alabama, Florida, and Mississippi came to showcase their talents at this year’s Southern Spring Invitational.
Here are some top players that stood out in no particular order.
Travel Team: Mississippi United
Jaylan McNair, 6’7 PF, Florence High C/O 2022: McNair is a player I recommend college coaches to keep an eye on as we enter the live period in July. He brings a lot of strength and intensity to the post. McNair runs the floor from end to end at top speed. He fights for the rebound on both ends of the floor; McNair can also step outside the paint with his nice mid-range shot. Defensively McNair is a monster shot blocker; he makes it extremely hard for any player to get a shot off. This kid is as tough as they come, and I can’t wait to see his continued progress in July.
Travel Team: Alabama Fusion
LJ Hackman, 6’1 Guard, New Hope c/o 2023: Hackman plays with the Alabama Fusion this travel season, and this kid is a nonstop scorer. With his elite handles, Hackman is unstoppable attacking the basket and is a major threat with his step-back jumper. In addition, he plays aggressive defense, looking to force a turnover. In a nice win against EAD Florida, Hackman dropped 19 points.
Travel Team: Alabama Fusion
Aiden Goins, 6’9 PF, Karns, TN c/o 2023: Goins was another Alabama Fusion player that brought his “A” game at the Southern Sprint Invitational. Goins does a great job using his size and remarkable footwork to score in the paint. Not only can Goins dominate in the post, but he also has the ability to step out and knock down the three. In addition, he does a great job of finding open teammates with his excellent passing from the post. Goins would drop 18 points and pulled down a great number of rebounds.
CJ Blount CJ Blount 6'0" | NA lbs | PG Huffman | 2022 State #NA Nation AL , 6’2 Guard, Carver Birmingham C/O 2022: Blount made a surprise appearance playing for Bham Blaze, and he stepped on the court with another outstanding performance as always. He plays with great high energy! He has excellent control attacking and finishing at the rim. Blount is great at creating space to complement his jumper. He has the skills to get past any defender when he pleases. Blount has become one of my favorite guards to watch, and I expect the live period to be a big month for him.
Travel Team: CP25 AL/MS
Logan Feltman Logan Feltman 6'10" | NA lbs | PF Winfield | 2022 State #NA Nation AL , 6’10 F/C, Winfield High C/O 2022: Feltman has begun to make a name for himself this travel season. He has the potential to become an elite force at the forward position. Feltman does an excellent job finishing at the rim and makes it look easy with his smooth post moves. He also has a great shot from the three making him a threat on the offensive end. In addition, Feltman is an excellent rebounder; he is truly a walking double-double. Be on the lookout for Feltman this live period.
