Southern Jam Fest – 2022 Trey Thomas talks game & recruitment
2022 Trey Thomas Trey Thomas 6'3" | PG Wise | 2022 MD was one of the top contributors for Team Melo this past weekend helping lead them to the quarterfinals of the Southern Jam Fest. Thomas was consistently scoring the ball for Melo in a variety of ways and showed a lot of improvement in his overall game. Thomas, who just recently announced he will be transferring to SPIRE, talked about how the last few months have been for him.
“With no high school season I really had to lock in. I am getting better everyday. We have to seize each moment. This AAU season is big for me especially coming from the Adidas circuit and now playing on the EYBL circuit, it is a big transition so I just want to get better everyday, lock in and do the little things like running hills, waking up early and knocking out 200 pushups and just continue to do things that will count in the long run. I have to live in the gym.”
Thomas has always had the athletic ability to finish above the rim and get out in transition but that part of his game really stood out this past weekend.
“My uncle and I have been working on the vertimax three times a week and it is paying off. My legs are getting stronger, I feel like I have a lot more bounce off my steps.”
Another part of his game that looked improved was his jumper as he was hitting multiple jumpers from different areas of the floor at a consistent basis in my viewing of him.
“I really like to focus on my jumper when I am in the gym. Everybody knows I can finish at the rim but at the next level I won’t be able to get to the rim as much so I have to be able to hit the outside shot. I have been putting up a lot of shots in the gym and it is paying off.”
The recruitment process is starting to pick up for him and that will continue to be the case.
“To be honest, the recruitment process is a little overwhelming right now but it shows that my hard work is paying off and I have to keep working.”
When asked which schools were standing out to him so far in the recruitment process, he said, “West Virginia, Texas, Marquette, Georgia State, North Carolina A&T, Rutgers and UCF.”
Thomas has scheduled an unofficial visit to West Virginia for June 5th.
