Ramere Draper Ramere Draper 6'4" | CG Wyoming | 2022 State MI goes for 28 points in win
It was one of the better performances of the event so far as Draper poured in 28 points for B3 Athletics in a variety of ways. At 6-foot-5, he already has good size, but add in his strong frame and he is very difficult to move off of his line. He has good length as well so then he’s attacking the basket, he’s very difficult to stop. His jumper is still a work in progress but he had a few terrific mid-range pull-up jumpers on Saturday that opened up the rest of his game. Slashing is his best tool, especially when he gets a full head of steam and in transition. Overall, he has very fluid athleticism and likes to play at his own pace throughout the game.
Nail-biter finishes highlight day two action
A terrific finish in two different games on Saturday proved to be the best two games I saw. It was a 12-point lead by Athlete Headquarters, 35-23, that evaporated slowly in the second half. Code 313 was extremely disciplined on the defensive end and even more patient offensively as they mounted a comeback. They used a 10-2 run to cut into the lead, in large part to the play of James Weaver James Weaver 5'10" | CG River Rouge | 2024 State MI who had 15 points. Code 313 had a few shots at the end to tie it but weren’t able to connect. Joseph Taylor led Athlete Headquarters with 14 points. Athlete Headquarters prevailed 49-46 in 15U play. In the other matchup, it was Grand Rapids Thunder and Chicago Lockdown in 16U action that went down to the last second as well. There were two ties and three lead changes in the last minute and a half of play, it was a game that rarely saw the lead extended past two possessions. It was two free throws by Jaden Love with 10 seconds left to lift GRT to the 45-44 win. CL had a chance at the other end of the floor but was unable to get a shot off as time expired.
GP Select has mixed results in 17U play
Checking in on our Indiana team in the event, it was an up and down day for GP Select – LW as they went 1-2. Two of the losses were by double-digits to Chicago Lockdown and Sports Prep Nothing But Athletes, and the lone win was against BC Elite. Demonte Ferguson had some of the better segments for GP Select this weekend and throughout Saturday’s games. They have a few more games on Sunday to end the weekend on a high note.
