Prospects from the state of Tennessee represented AAU programs such as BMaze Elite and EAB very well.
I was on hand Saturday to watch prospects from The Volunteer State.
Here are the seven best performances from Saturday’s action of the Rocky Top Invitational.
Jahvin Carter Jahvin Carter 6'2" | PG Alcoa | 2024 State #214 Nation TN , BMaze Elite 15U: Saying Carter was impressive is an understatement. The 2024 point guard put on a show in his team’s 73-37 win over EAB 15U. Carter scored 19 points and made it look easy. He has a quick, first-step, can make a high clip of shots from 3-point range and knows how to finish at the rim. Carter is a great ball handler. He’s very unselfish. Carter has a bright future.
Joah Shay, BMaze Elite 15U: Shay impressed me with how well he shoots the basketball. The 5-8 guard had 17 points against EAB. Shay takes a lot of great shots. When the shot isn’t there, he makes the right pass. Shay is another unselfish prospect with a high basketball IQ.
Jakobi Gillespie Jakobi Gillespie 6'0" | PG Greeneville | 2022 State TN , BMaze Elite 17U: Gillespie seemed to pick up where he left off from his junior season at Greeneville. He had 14 points in a loss to AC Georgia. Gillespie is a big shot taker and a big shot maker. He’s a solid ball handler and plays the game the right way.
Trent McNair, EAB 17U: The 6-4 guard was needed in his team’s win over 1 Family. McNair had 13 points in the win. He was getting into the lane, finishing with finger roll layups and making shots from 17-feet out. McNair stayed poised in the close matchup and made shots down the stretch when his team needed them.
Evan Eursher Evan Eursher 6'2" | PG Webb-Bell Buckle | 2022 State #244 Nation TN , EAB 17U: Eursher was just as big as McNair was against 1 Family. Once the 6-3 guard found an offensive rhythm, he got going, and there was nothing the opposing team could do. Eursher is a sleeper on the floor. He’s not flashy, but will end up in double figures by the end of the game. Eursher is an efficient scorer. He always finds a way to put points on the scoreboard.
Lukas Walls Lukas Walls 6'4" | SG Knoxville Webb | 2023 State TN , BMaze Elite 16U: My first impression of Walls was how well he can play both guard positions. At point guard, he’s a confident ball handler, knows to read a defense and knows how to get into the middle of a 2-3 zone. At shooting guard, Walls moves well without the basketball and can make shots from the perimeter. He had 14 points in a win over 1 Family. At 6-4, he has a chance to be a special player in the 2023 class.
Blue Cain Blue Cain 6'4" | SG IMG Academy | 2023 State #102 Nation FL , BMaze Elite 16U: Cain is shifty and crafty with the basketball. He has shown people that he’s capable of creating shots on his own. Cain can be on the island by himself and go dancing with his defender. He’s just that lethal offensively. Cain’s shots were falling against 1 Family. He led the team with 15 points.
