2022 G Ryan Oliver (Cane Ridge / PSB-Nashville 17u)
Ryan Oliver was hit-and-miss Saturday. In the morning game Oliver looked more lost than found. For whatever reason the play outpaced him and he was too often spinning his tires. Facing DC Premier, actually a much tougher opponent, Oliver played with a significantly better basketball brain. His passing was key. Oliver proved previous weekends that he can play with the fastest guards. He seems to play best when he reacts and injects himself into the muck. Oliver will never be that dynamic primary scoring option, but he can still score in double figures when he scraps and claws. Wonderful nose for the rebound. Saturday was not his best though.
2022 PG J.J. Wheat J.J. Wheat 6'0" | PG Clarksville | 2022 State TN (Clarksville / PSB-Nashville 17u)
It is a toss-up between Kristian Shaw Kristian Shaw 6'6" | SG Beech | 2022 State TN and J.J. Wheat J.J. Wheat 6'0" | PG Clarksville | 2022 State TN for PSB 17u Player of the Day. While Shaw hit his shots, J.J. truthfully ran circles around solid 17u players. Blessed with supreme court awareness, the exceptionally powerful senior-to-be guard is impossible to dispossess. Scramble plays unnaturally go his way, likely thanks to his quick feet and strong chest/arms. Wheat made several absurdly challenging layups with wonderful mid-air body control.
2022 SG Kristian Shaw Kristian Shaw 6'6" | SG Beech | 2022 State TN (Beech / PSB-Nashville 17u)
In a world of competitiveness Kristian managed to shine with grit and hunger, especially in the second contest. DC Premier established dominance and appeared poised to close out a win throughout the second half. Regardless of the seemingly inevitable outcome Kristian scrapped for an offensive rebound. He shot a lot better in the morning matchup with DTO Elite, making five second-half three-pointers. Shaw’s reputation is that of a tall shooter with blossoming slashing skills. The finishing in the lane is imperative for Shaw to prove he can be a primary scorer at the MM/MM+ level. Shaw’s floor is LM D1.

2022 PG Jaden Lyles Jaden Lyles 6'1" | PG Lipscomb Academy (football) | 2022 State TN (Lipscomb Academy / PSB-Nashville 17u)
This spring Jaden earned a D1 football offer. Rugged for a basketball player, Lyles certainly looks the part of a DII floor general. Lyles moves around the floor smoothly, passes with confidence, and hunts down loose balls better than most. Lyles can shoot, but certainly could use more time in the gym expanding his pull-up package. Nice touch on the floaters and layups.
2022 SG Eli Rice Eli Rice 6'7" | SG Beech | 2022 State TN (Station Camp / PSB-Nashville 17u)
Young for his grade, Eli Rice Eli Rice 6'7" | SG Beech | 2022 State TN is still adding to his game. The touch is what makes him so appealing as a college basketball prospect. Often, he appears to be playing slower than he can. In his Saturday games he showed bursts of speed, but not consistently. Rice projects as a DII+ wing with flashes of DI. It will take more toughness in the paint for Rice to play big minutes for a DI program. The DC Premier game showed how much more explosive Rice needs to be to successfully convert against the elite wings and bigs. Rice reads the passes well and jumped in the passing lane a couple times against DC Premier. His strengths outweigh his weaknesses, but he needs to use this summer/fall to take another step towards his enticing ceiling.
2022 SG Jake Dykstra Jake Dykstra 6'3" | SF C.P.A. | 2022 State TN (C.P.A. / PSB-Nashville 17u)
Jake was a starter for the State Finalist C.P.A. men last winter. They have a squad fully capable of returning to the tournament again during his forthcoming senior year. Take Jake away from C.P.A. and what do you have? Dykstra is a great catch-and-shoot player with plus-defense. He never turns the ball over and checks his man consistently. Dykstra possesses many redeeming qualities of a winning basketball player. He never quits. He works regardless of whether he gets shots or not. Dykstra was not utilized much offensively Saturday and considering his high school season, and his 16u campaign with the Tennessee Tigers , he has plenty more to give.
2022 PG Tyler Moore Tyler Moore 6'0" | SG Beech | 2022 State TN (Beech / PSB-Nashville 17u)
Tyler played his junior season for Station Camp. He shared with PrepHoopsTN his intentions to transfer to Beech High, making him a future high school teammate of Kristian Shaw Kristian Shaw 6'6" | SG Beech | 2022 State TN . Moore is a classic point guard. He can score from beyond the arc or the free throw line. His handle is ok to slightly above average. It would be helpful is he added heft in his upper body.
2022 F Isaiah Davis Isaiah Davis 6'7" | PF Nashville Christian | 2022 State TN (Station Camp / PSB-Nashville 17u)
Isaiah Davis Isaiah Davis 6'7" | PF Nashville Christian | 2022 State TN is a curious prospect. Davis looks like a face-up 3/4. Can he play on the wing at the next level? Unclear. Davis loves to, and appears to be capable of, shoot from the high school arc. For his high school team, Station Camp, Davis defended the post very well. Station Camp was an amazing defensive team last winter. Will that be Davis’ position beyond graduation? It is an interesting conundrum. PSB-Nashville really played outside-in and did not feed the post much at all. Most of the ball movement came around the three-point line. Few feeds found Davis in deep and his touches out high were challenged quickly enough to prevent him from going off like Kristian Shaw Kristian Shaw 6'6" | SG Beech | 2022 State TN did.
