So as the high school basketball season begins here, I wanted to highlight some of the under-the-radar players that you should be on the lookout for. Here are the 2021 All-Hidden Gem teams.
Soren Dalan, 2023 | 6-9 C | WF West HS
Soran is a big body and force to guard down low. Every time I see him, he looks better than the time before. He will be a big piece for the WF West squad this year. He gives them a different look and a solid inside presence. He’s great at scoring over his right shoulder and does a good job uses his body to move defenders out the way for offensive boards.
Trystin Marin, 2023 | 5-11 CG | Kelso HS
Marin will get his call up to varsity this year. He will provide a big spark for the Kelso Highlanders. With his skill set, he will have an opportunity to be the third scoring option. Marin has a shifty handle and is an underrated scorer. If he can be a consistent playmaker and defender, he will increase Kelso’s chances for success.
Henry Hughes, 2022 | 6-1 SG | Ridgefield HS
Henry is always in attack mode. Defenders can’t take any breaks out there when guarding him because one slip up and he will most likely get a bucket. He just knows how to manufacture shots. If he gets going early it might be a long night for the opposition.
Sam Kaye-Glenn, 2022 | 6-5 F | Ilwaco HS
Sam will be the x-factor for the Fisherman. A late bloomer to basketball, but oozing with potential. He has a good skill set for his size. He can shoot it from 3, finish above the rim, and is a solid shot blocker. If Sam increases his confidence, he will be a force in their league.
Brodie Avalon, 2023 | 6-1 SG | Wahkiakum HS
Brodie will be looking to build onto a solid start to his high school career. Last season, as a freshman, Brodie played quality varsity minutes. He was a consistent threat from the outside and proved he’s one of the best shooters in his class. He put a lot of time into his game this off-season. Look for Brodie to be more of a scorer and not just a shooter this year.
