Bryant is a confident ball-handler and shooter who doesn’t get rattled by on-ball pressure. He knocked down a pair of first-half 3s in the Mavericks win over the Minnesota Heat. His strong shooting in the first half opened up the rest of his offensive game, as he was able to get to the rim for creative finishes in the second half. He does a good job pushing the tempo and looking ahead, trying to get his teammates easy looks in transition, and he’s equally content scoring or distributing. When the opportunity presents itself, he’ll look to score, but he’s not going to force anything.
2022 Keaton Farmer Keaton Farmer 6'2" | CG Waverly-Shell Rock | 2022 State IA (Iowa Mavericks Grey 17U/Waverly-Shell Rock)
A 6-1 guard, Farmer was a flamethrower in the Mavericks win over the Minnesota Heat, knocking down three 3s in the first half, which, like Bryant, opened up the rest of his game. Farmer moves really well off the ball, finding spaces in the defense to get his shot off, and he’s a great shooter off the catch with a quick release and a smooth stroke. He does a great job getting his feet squared up and ready to shoot immediately on the catch. He’s a better shooter off the catch than off the dribble, but he does have the ability to create his own look a bit.
2022 Zach Erwin Zach Erwin 6'6" | SF Camanche | 2022 State IA (Iowa Mavericks Grey 17U/Camanche)
A talented 6-6 playmaking wing who can do a little bit of everything, Erwin can control the game on both ends of the floor with his versatility. He has great size and length, and he’s a versatile, switchable defender who can bang in the post with bigger bodies, or stay in front of guards on the perimeter. Offensively, he handles the ball well, sees the floor, and is willing to post up smaller defenders for easy buckets on the block. He’s not a great shooter, but it’s an area of his game that is improving. He’s a kid that Division II programs in the Midwest should have on their radar.
2021 Jamari Smith Jamari Smith 6'4" | SF Hempstead | 2021 State IA (Iowa Mavericks Grey 17U/Hempstead)
An athletic wing with good size and length, Smith is a streaky shooter, but few players in the state can get as hot as he can when he gets it rolling. The unsigned senior has the ability to create his own shot and the size to get his shot off pretty much whenever he wants to. He has really improved his ball-handling, which has helped open up the rest of his offensive game, allowing him to attack the rim more consistently. He’s a very good offensive player, and he has the tools to be a strong defender as well.
2022 Mike Delzell Mike Delzell 6'0" | SF Camanche | 2022 State IA (Iowa Mavericks Grey 17U/Camanche)
A 6-2 forward, Delzell does a little bit of everything on the floor, similar to his high school teammate Erwin. He’s a big-bodied player with a great frame who plays with physicality on both ends of the floor. He rebounds at a high level, sees the floor well and passes it, and can stretch the floor as a shooter.
2023 Matthew Watters (Iowa Mavericks Grey 16U/Central DeWitt)
Watters impressed in the Mavericks win over WOTN with his constant attacking of the rim. He was aggressive in getting to the bucket both in the halfcourt and in transition, using his solid 6-2 frame to finish through contact. He contributes on the glass on both ends of the floor and can get others involved.
2023 Zane Witt Zane Witt 6'6" | PF Camanche | 2023 State IA (Iowa Mavericks Grey 16U/Camanche)
Another Camanche standout, the 6-7 forward was excellent on both ends of the floor for the Mavericks. He’s an agile big who can run the floor and switch defensively, protect the rim, and he does a great job establishing early post position and making himself big and visible on the block. He had an impressive catch, drop-step and powerful dunk in their win over WOTN, and as he continues to become a more fluid low-post scorer, he’ll blossom into a prospect the Division II programs will need to take a hard look at.
2023 Hayden Jacobsmeier (Iowa Mavericks Grey 16U/Senior)
Jacobsmeier is a fiery, 6-0 wing who competes hard on both ends of the floor on every possession. He’s got good length and he’s a flat-out scorer who can really get the job done from all three levels. He showed some impressive footwork on his drives to the rim, and he can shoot it with range well beyond the high school line.
