Kambalo earned All State honors this year – First Team Junior All State and Second Team Class AA All State – averaging 12.4 points, 2.5 rebounds, and four assists a contest. He’s also a member of the 40 percent club. What’s the 40 percent club? Guys that consistently shoot 40 percent or above at the arc, like Kambalo did this winter. A mark that’s extremely tough to reach.
Washington was the top seed in the Class AA State Tournament this year. They didn’t win state but the Warriors were among the top squads all year and it was a successful season.
“We started the season very good but struggled at the end,” Mikele said. “I improved as a playmaker and leader.”
Playmaker is a great word for Kambalo. Washington won games with balance and ball movement that overwhelmed teams. Kambalo made plays for others (4 assists a game), shot well at the arc (40 percent), completed his attacks with quality numbers (82 percent at the foul line is a part of it), and ran the team. He is doing the same thing now for Sacred Hoops Walker who came into last weekend undefeated.
Kambalo has been playing AAU basketball for much of his career because of the value it brings. What values is that?
“The value of AAU to me is playing against different types of players and (helping me learn) the things I need to work on. We (at Sacred Hoops) are looking really good.”
Next up for Kambalo is his senior summer and starting to think about college basketball.
Mikele Kambalo (Sacred Hoops 17-U) is a lightning rod on the court…Here he stops, pops and DROPS a three.
