Here is a look at some of the top ball handlers at the Midwest Grind Session (in alphabetical order):
Jaiden Clark, 2021, 5-foot-8 guard, ABC Basketball, Muskogee HS:
Clark was a slick ball handling leader for ABC in Wichita. He showed off the ability to spin dribble in traffic and get to the rim. He works low to the floor and has a good first step to get by defenders and create havoc.
Noah Mcmullan Noah Mcmullan 5'9" | PG North Rock Creek | 2022 OK , 2022, 5-foot-9 guard, Next Level Oklahoma, North Rock Creek HS (pictured)
McMullan impressed as much with his daring and toughness as he did with his ball skills. He dribbles fearlessly into bigger players and gets shots off, or weaves around until something opens up. He is quick, athletic and creative. He just finds a way.
Tony Smith, 2022, 5-foot-8 guard, Midwest Magic Elite – Resa, Wichita Southeast HS:
Smith exploded for 34 points in a game, and was impressive in every game. He does it primarily by using the dribble to create space. He can drive and get off runners and jumpers, or get clear to the rim. He is hard to stop on the dribble in transition, and therefore he creates a lot of opportunities by beating defenders down the floor.
Burk Springer, 2022, 5-foot-10 guard, SSA Hoops Elite Blue, Wamego HS:
Springer is a good athlete who combines strength and speed to gain advantages in the open court. He pushes the ball up the floor and through traffic aggressively. He’s a pass-first guard who creates opportunities for others because he is so good at slicing and veering through defenses in transition.
Terique Suwarah, 2022, 6-foot guard, KC Spurs White, Olathe West HS:
The Spurs White squad was overshadowed by the dominant Black team. But Suwarah showed really solid ball handling and good leadership of the White offense. He’s calm and patient with the ball, and uses his powerful build to keep defenders at bay. Suwarah is a find passer, and a lot of it is that he’s able to navigate through pressure with his head up and his pace under control.
