From playmaking point guards to sharpshooting wings and skilled bigs, we saw it all at the Game On Sports Complex and it was difficult to narrow down a list of standout performers. But, a few players stood out above the rest and in this article, we highlight six ballers who had huge games and two players who were clutch in overtime for their squads.
Augustine Chibuko Augustine Chibuko 6'5" | SF North Garland | 2022 State TX | 6’5″ SF | BBSS National 2023 (2022)
- Chibuko really caught my eye on Saturday as the athletic small forward was making an impact all over the court for BBSS, from gobbling up rebounds to blocking 4 shots in a tough matchup against Rogue 2023. Chibuko brings a lot of upside as a true small forward, but he also showed he can out-jump anyone for rebounds and bang in the paint as a power forward. The high flying forward put up 14 points against Rogue 2023, with most of his work coming in the paint and from the free-throw line. Keep an eye out on the North Garland prospect moving forward this summer and into the next high school season.
R.J. Chatman R.J. Chatman 5'10" | PG Sachse | 2023 State TX | 5’10″ PG | BBSS National 2023 (2023)
- Another BBSS prospect to make the standout list, Chatman was unstoppable as a scorer in their matchup against Rogue 2023, scoring 19 points and nailing 3 three-pointers, showing why he is a top 30 player in Texas for the 2023 class. Chatman is quick off the dribble and has a suddenness to his game where he can pull up and nail jumpers from anywhere in the half-court. He displayed some nice shooting range in the game, from beyond-the-arc shots to hitting jumpers around the elbow, as well as using some crafty moves to get to the hoop.
Evan Barber Evan Barber 6'1" | CG Westmoore | 2023 State OK | 6’1″ PG | Rogue 2023 (2023)
- Barber played the role of a true floor general and vocal leader for Rogue 2023, doing a great job of running the offense and consistently making plays late in the game in their tough win over BBSS National 2023. Barber played with great confidence and poise, showed good court vision on his passes, and scored 13 points in the second half to secure the victory. On top of all of that, Barber was able to create shots for himself and nailed two beautiful step-back three-pointers in the game with pressure in his face.
Keegan Bass Keegan Bass 5'10" | PG Mustang | 2023 OK | 5’10″ PG | Rogue 2023 (2023)
- Bass brought his physical play and toughness, in addition to his elite scoring ability, in Rogue 2023 win over BBSS. Bass was unstoppable in the first half of the game scoring 16 points from all three levels of the halfcourt. He plays a determined style of ball, fights through contact when finishing near the basket, and showed to have a quick trigger on his shots from beyond the arc. In addition to his scoring ability, Bass was stingy on defense and played with a physical edge to his game.
Jordan Hall | 6’3″ SG | Prosper Cougars (2022)
- Hall was one of the more efficient scorers I saw on Saturday with his 17 point performance in Prosper’s win over B.O.L.D. 2023. Hall played the 2-5 positions for the Cougars and scored from all three levels of the half-court, where he has soft shot in the paint and mid-range but is also a lethal scorer from three-point range. Hall plays with a high basketball IQ, makes the right decisions passing the ball, and never seemed flustered by defensive pressure. Does really well as an off-ball scorer and catch-and-shoot weapon. Has a good frame for the wing position with room to grow into a small forward.
AaShon Holmes AaShon Holmes 6'1" | PG San Antonio Harlan | 2023 State TX | 6’0″ PG | Nike ProSkills San Antonio 2023 Black (2023)
- Holmes was electric for ProSkill San Antonio, putting up 21 points against Chosen Few 2023 and playing with a physical edge. A top 100 prospect in Texas for the 2023 class, Holmes has the athleticism, frame, and attacking mindset you want from the point guard position, and he’s not afraid to outmuscle opponents on both sides of the court. He hit a couple of threes to start the game, and then went to work attacking the basket and finishing through contact. Holmes also displayed a nice shot and lift on his pull-up jumper in the mid-range, keeping defenders off balance each time he drove into the paint.
Clutch Performers
Noah Simmons Noah Simmons 6'8" | C Valley Center | 2022 State KS | 6’8″ C | TBB KS 2022 (2022)
- Simmons is a skilled big man who did a good job bringing down boards, battling in the paint, blocking shots, and keeping his eyes up making crisp passes to teammates from the short corner. But his most clutch play came in overtime against Mississippi United 2022 where he nailed two game-winning free throws with .07 left on the clock. For a 6’8″ post to swish the game-winning free throws with pressure on him was incredibly impressive, and Simmons finished the game with a stat line of 9 points, 8 rebounds, 3 blocks, and 3 assists.
Tayvon Prestridge | 5’9″ PG | Oklahoma Swarm Elite 2023 (2022)
- Prestridge was another clutch performer on Saturday who nailed overtime free throws with seconds remaining to give Oklahoma Swarm Elite 2023 the win over DFW Magic 2023. A gritty point guard who plays bigger than his size, Prestridge was cool, calm, and collected with the crucial late-game free throws, nailing one of his two attempts with less than three seconds left in overtime.
