Let’s get into some news/notes on my radar…
William VanHook William VanHook 5'11" | CG Palm Beach Central | 2021 State FL – Wellington
VanHook is a prospect up in Palm Beach County that remains unsigned. The 6-foot-1 point guard averaged 10.4 points, 6.4 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game for the Wolverines last season. Moreover, VanHook grabbed eight or more boards in six games. You have to like his effort to contribute around the glass coming out of the backcourt. Against Dwyer, VanHook scored 16 points and grabbed six rebounds on 6-of-13 shooting from the floor. He also tallied 65 assists on the year and shot 37 percent from the perimeter. VanHook would be an efficient playmaker to a college program. You can view his senior highlights by clicking here.
Makye Boles Makye Boles 6'5" | PF Grandview Prep | 2021 State FL – Grandview Prep
Makye Boles Makye Boles 6'5" | PF Grandview Prep | 2021 State FL was an integral part in helping the Pride to the Class 2A final four this past season. The 6-foot-6 forward averaged 15.8 points and 7.2 rebounds per game for 16-3 Grandview Prep. He recently announced his commitment to Southeastern University. The Fire compete in the Sun Conference of the NAIA. Boles was named 1st Team All-County by the Palm Beach Post and holds a 3.9 GPA in the classroom. He scored 1521 points during his high school career and will make an instant impact for the Fire.
Andrew Akuchie Andrew Akuchie 6'8" | PF St. Thomas Aquinas | 2022 State FL – St. Thomas Aquinas
Andrew Akuchie Andrew Akuchie 6'8" | PF St. Thomas Aquinas | 2022 State FL earned his first offer from the University of Albany this week. The Great Danes finished 7-9 overall in the America East Conference this past season. The 6-foot-8 forward has also received heavy interest from Ivy League programs. I was on the phone with one school in that conference who is very high on him. It makes sense for high academics to be calling with Akuchie’s 3.9 GPA in the classroom. I wouldn’t be surprised for a conference like the Patriot League to look at him as well. You can really see his ability to run the floor and pick and pop in his highlight tape. Akuchie will defend the paint and limit his opponents offensive efficiency with his length. He averaged 16 points, 8.6 rebounds and 3.6 blocks per game as a junior.
Austin White – Durant
Austin White is a prospect to keep an eye out for out of Plant City. I realize I am going out of the region, but I feel he is a name you have to know about. The 6-foot-1 guard has been dominating for CP25 Tampa. White reportedly scored 40 points and bombed ten 3-pointers in a spring game against Tampa Catholic. That is very impressive when you consider the Crusaders feature 2024 Karter Knox Karter Knox 6'6" | SG Tampa Catholic | 2024 #6 Nation GA . Moreover, White scored 25 and 15 points in two other prior spring games. There is clearly a shooter brewing in Hillsborough County that should have a massive sophomore season. CP25 is ranked in the top 10 for 10th grade programs in Florida. Check out some of his highlights by clicking here.
Justin Abson Justin Abson 6'9" | PF North Broward Prep | 2022 State #230 Nation FL – North Broward Prep
2022 Justin Abson Justin Abson 6'9" | PF North Broward Prep | 2022 State #230 Nation FL earned an offer from Wofford College today. The Terriers compete in the Southern Conference and went 15-9 overall last season. The 6-foot-9 power forward plays for the Nightrydas Elite on the circuit. Abson averaged 16.8 points, 12 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 3.2 blocks per game for North Broward Prep last season. He also holds offers from Troy, Florida Gulf Coast and Stetson. I am a big fan of his face up game and technique in the paint. Abson operates as an athletic big and can use his skill set to create opportunities for his teammates in the halfcourt. Look for him to be one of the top frontcourt players in South Florida as a senior.
