Because of the pandemic, the folks at Mater Dei had to take a more regional approach to teams who participated and limited the number of fans that could be in attendance. Even with those roadblocks, the Extravaganza was still a high level two-day event filled with talent. Here’s a look at the standouts from the class of 2021.
Adam Hinton Adam Hinton 6'5" | SG Phillips Exeter Academy | 2022 NLG , Harvard-Westlake – Hinton put together an impressive performance in perhaps the most anticipated match-up of the weekend. The 6-foot-4 wing scored 22 points in a big win over Etiwanda, helping the Wolverines seal a spot in the exclusive eight-team CIF Southern Section Open Division Playoffs.
Harrison Hornery Harrison Hornery 6'9" | PF Mater Dei | 2021 State #168 Nation CA-S , Mater Dei – The USC-bound forward has put together a productive senior season and the Extravaganza was no different. Hornery scored 18 points with six rebounds in a win over Capistrano Valley Christian then dropped 21 points with 16 rebounds the next night in a win over St. Augustine.
Lorenzo Marsh Lorenzo Marsh 6'5" | SF St. Anthony | 2021 State CA-S , Long Beach Poly – The 6-foot-4 swingman, who transferred to Poly from St. Anthony, scored 10 points as the Jackrabbits fell to St. John Bosco while playing without five-star wing Peyton Watson Peyton Watson 6'7" | SF Long Beach Poly | 2021 State #11 Nation CA-S . Marsh is a long, wiry and smooth shooting wing who has improved his ball handling and ability to create off the bounce for himself and teammates.
Jalen Pitre Jalen Pitre 6'8" | SF Long Beach Poly | 2021 State CA-S , Long Beach Poly – Pitre is another addition for Poly who we saw for the first time this season and he impressed with his scoring and rebounding from the wing position. The 6-foot-8 forward, who is committed to Pepperdine, finished with 14 points and eight rebounds as the Jackrabbits lost to Open Division-bound St. John Bosco.
Langston Redfield Langston Redfield 6'3" | PG Capistrano Valley | 2021 State CA-S , Capistrano Valley – Redfield and Capistrano Valley stepped up to the plate to take on one of the state’s top teams and the 6-foot-3 point guard performed well on the big stage. Redfield’s ability to run the offense, take care of the basketball and help his team get high percentage looks kept Centennial from getting out in transition and putting up big numbers on the scoreboard as the Huskies normally do. Capo Valley dropped this game, 64-50, but Redfield proved he can compete against some of California’s best young prospects
