An immense talent pool, amazing atmosphere inside the gyms, and teams battling it out from across the country. Coverage will look at players who participated in the event that I was able to check out at the 15U level.
- Spencer Coup, Clutch: The 2024 SSA Elite Black 15U Guard has had a great spring against some of the top competition at that level across the Midwest. He started off the final tournament of his spring drilling a 35 foot three point bomb to win the game at the buzzer to beat the really talented Kingdom Hoops Elite. The young guard had a solid weekend and is a tough nosed player in the back court that can handle both on ball and off ball duties.
- Derek Quinlin can shoot the rock: The 5’11 guard out of Marysville HS in Missouri had a 22 point scoring effort against the Showtime Hoopers that saw him drill multiple 3 balls in both the half court and in transition. Quinlin has good court awareness and moves well off the ball and finds open areas. Has a pretty solid release that allows him to get shots up against contests.
- Andrell Burton is the real deal: The Buddy Buckets KS 2024 guard is an extremely long and athletic guard/wing hybrid player, Burton was terrific in the game I saw against Howard Pully, where he scored 12 points in the process but made countless plays on the court. His length and IQ on the defensive end allows him to get a ton of deflections and steals that allow him to get out in transition where he is tough to guard. Burton also is terrific on rip drives with a huge first step that gets him by defenders and at the rim quickly.
- Wyatt Lewis, MoKan 2024 Sollars, can score the ball: Lewis had 12 and 14 points in the two games I was able to watch some of this weekend, and has a knack for getting to his spots on the floor whether it is off the bounce, through sets, or moving in transition. Lewis shot the ball pretty well from the perimeter and hit a couple of big time shots late in their game against Team GetShook. He is a young guard to keep tabs on throughout the spring and summer.
- Tate McCubbin is a long shooter: The Michel Porter Jr 2024 guard was a certified zone buster in the game I watched against the KC Dream. His teammates did a great job of breaking down the zone and finding him spotting up, where he drilled multiple 3’s. McCubbin has a chance to be really long and be a terrific 3 and D wing. HE finished with 11 in the game.
