This year was no different with a humongous talent pool, amazing atmosphere inside the arena, and teams battling it out from across the country. The next series of coverage will look at 2023 forward players who participated in the event that I was able to check out.
2023 Forward Notes
- SSA Elite Black Wing Forward Duo Have Big Weekend: 6’5 Wing/Forwards Tyson Ruud Tyson Ruud 6'5" | SF Basehor-Linwood | 2023 State KS and Kamryn Kaniper Kamryn Kaniper 6'4" | SF Silver Lake | 2023 State KS both had really solid weekends. Kaniper continued to be a near double double threat game in and game out throughout the weekend and his ability to block shots with his timing, leaping ability, and length was some of the best stuff this weekend. Ruud continued to be more aggressive at the rim and use his shooting from the perimeter as a compliment. The duo put up 11 points (Ruud) and 10 points (Kaniper) in the teams final win of a 3-1 KC Classic.
- Will Anciaux Will Anciaux 6'6" | PF Kapaun Mt Carmel | 2023 State KS has a big weekend: The talented, long, and skilled forward had a really solid weekend for Buddy Buckets KS 2023. He had a really soft touch on his intermediate floater and mid range game, the footwork going with his back to the basket, and cleaned up on the offensive glass as well. His weekend was highlighted with a big 26 point game against Mentality Gold.
- Tyler Little Tyler Little 6'5" | PF Galena | 2023 State KS remains solid (Pictured): The 2023 6’6 prospect for 816 Cherepkai was rock solid all around, rebounding at a solid clip, was good at walling up on defense, and scored the ball around the 6 to 12 point range. He is tough to not have on the floor as he brings a ton to his game in the front court and is a mistake limited, efficient forward with great size.
- Cameron Manyawu 6’7 F MoKan 2023 Birch has a ton of potential: The big man has a very high ceiling and a great floor to work from. In the action I watched against Team Yobo, Manyawu was great at holding off his guy up the lane, catching the ball in traffic, staying poised, and finishing. He also ran the floor extremely well in that game and got a couple of easy buckets at the rim off quick finishes when cleaning up misses. Against Yobo he had 17 points on a really high percentage.
