Here are some notes of the 2022 players to look out for outside of the big name shoe teams who will be taking part in the festivities.
Landon Wagler Landon Wagler 6'8" | PF Shawne Mission Northwest | 2022 State KS , 6’5 F, Mokan 2022: Wagler is a versatile wing/forward prospect that will have a great platform this weekend to showcase his versatility, toughness, and skill out on both the perimeter and in the painted area. I really like Wagler’s game in the passing area, with his vision, unselfishness, and size making him lethal through passing the ball through the defense. Wagler shoots catch and shoot 3’s well and plays off the catch well, being a solid straight line driver of the basketball. A stat sheet stuffer to check out this weekend.
Nahcs Wahwassuck Nahcs Wahwassuck 6'5" | CG Royal Valley | 2022 State KS , 6’5 Point Guard, SSA Elite 2022 Black (Pictured): The talented versatile point guard is returning after two weeks of injury this weekend. Wahwassuck brings a total different element to the 2022 SSA Black team that has still had great success in his absence with guys like Trevor Mcbride Trevor Mcbride 6'2" | CG Basehor Linwood | 2022 State KS taking the load as the lead guard. Wahwassuck controls tempo really well, can see over hard hedges and traps on ball screens, has a uncanny ability to get into the paint and finish, and is one of the better drawer of contact in Kansas. The perimeter shot continues to go and his pull up mid range game is becoming elite. In his last outing he posted 11 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 assists in just a little over of one half of action before getting hurt. With two EYBL opponents on the roster, Wahwassuck and his squad will be put to the test.
Jordan Brown Jordan Brown 6'2" | SG St Francis | 2022 State GA , 6’4 G, Yobo 2022: Also playing in one of the premier pools at the classic, Brown and his Yobo squad will be looking to make some noise this weekend. Brown has a history of putting up big time electric scoring performances against big time programs on the grassroots scene, so the potential for an eye popping moment or two is there. The scoring ability from the perimeter is the stand out with Brown, but when he gets his finishing around the rim game in as a compliment he becomes that much better.
Emmitt Jueneman Emmitt Jueneman 6'1" | SF Hanover | 2022 State KS , 6’3 G, Showtime 2022: The 1A-II player of the year will have an opportunity on a bigger stage to show his elite athleticism, knock down shooting ability, and downhill playmaking with the ball in his hands. In transition, Jueneman is a tremendous play maker and always has the ability to make a big time play up at the rim. Plays the game the right way and gets after it on both ends of the floor.
Deuce Roberts, 6’7 Wing, Yobo: Roberts is a big time bouncy and lengthy player that is tremendous in the down hill game with the ball in his hands and is really effective when he is able and willing to run the floor and put himself in transition scoring opportunities. He can be an active defender and influence a ton of shots and can snag a couple of big time blocks. Roberts is a really intriguing wing prospect who is continuing to develop in the half court, but his athleticism, handle in transition, and play making in the open court are major staples of why he should be noticed this weekend.
Sam Somerhalder Sam Somerhalder 6'7" | SF St. James Academy | 2022 State KS , 6’7 Wing, Team KC 2022: Somerhalder has been blowing up on the Recruit Look Circuit putting up monster numbers and showing off elements of his game that stick out with his height. He has knocked down shots form the perimeter at a consistent clip, his handle in pushing the ball up the floor has been outstanding, and the other staples of his game I have come to know from him including his physicality and effectiveness in the post and painted areas remain elite.
