Here are a handful of Kansas 16Us who stood out on Day One (in alphabetical order):
Ketraleus Aldridge, 6-foot-4 forward, KC United, Highland Park HS:
The Topeka product opened some eyes with his performance Saturday. He’s a fiery competitor who showed he can score in a variety of ways. He can really elevate to get his midrange jumper off, and he has a quick crossover that helps him get in the lane. He is explosive and energetic on the boards and at the defensive end.
Mason Gomez, 6-foot-2 forward, Kansas 94×50 Elite, Topeka West HS:
Gomez filled it up from deep on Saturday. This guy has deep range, and hit a surprising percentage. He’s got a quick and confident release. He can push the ball in the open court, make passes on the drive, and hit midrange shots. But it’s his deep stroke that is really eye-opening.
Fernando Gracia, 6-foot-5 forward, 816 – Burch, Olathe North HS:
No one blacked more shots on Saturday than Gracia. He roams around the defensive end, showing great timing and instinct to leave his man at just the right time to swat shots. Gracia has really long arms, nice agility, and blocks shots without fouling. He can do a lot more, including knock down threes and handle the ball full court. He has a sense for moving on the perimeter to find openings to catch and shoot.
Eli Shetlar Eli Shetlar 6'4" | SG Andover | 2023 State KS , 6-foot-4 guard, TBB KS, Andover HS (pictured):
Shetlar showed some of everything Saturday. He’s so smooth with the ball, and makes such good decisions. He buries long threes, and attacks the lane aggressively when the time is right. He has great vision and gets the ball to the right places. He’s pesky at the defensive end, guarding opposing guards with long arms and quick hands.
Tatum Steinhoff, 5-foot-11 guard, B2B Elite, Maize South HS:
Steinhoff was a distributor and facilitator for B2B. He showed ability to drive and kick or to dish the ball to a teammate in the lane. He’s an athletic ball handler who gets the ball to the right guy at the right time. Steinhoff knocked down threes and was a pesky on-ball defender at the other end.
